Hello, lived in our house 6 years and have never had anything like this happen. So for the last 2 months or so, we've had some very strange things happen. Several times I've been stood in the kitchen and had the sensation of someone walking up behiend me, I'm sure I've heard footsteps, seen something out of the corner of my eye- so much so that I've started talking because I thought it was my DH. Turn around and no-one there. My DH has had the same.
He's witnessed things being moved. I always make a point of putting my daughters hair in plaits/ pony tail before bed but one night she wouldn't let me- walk in the next morning and her hair is in a tight, neat ponytail (she is 2.5- couldn't do it herself) I asked her who did it- she said 'Daddy', it wasn't. We never strap my youngest in her high chair but on multiple occasions we've gone to take her out and she's strapped in. Multiple power outages/ flickering (not related to the storm before anyone asks!). My 2.5yr old has recently started to not sleep at night, recently she has told me there was someone behind me when I've comforted her, I ask her who and again she says 'Daddy'.
Before anyone asks, we have never spoken about any of this in front of our daughters. I am a very rational person and I have tried to think of explanations but these things keep happening

Does anyone have any similar experiences? It wasn't bothering me at first but now I think it could be scaring my eldest? Unsure what to do.
Please don't reply if you are just going to try and explain it away, I'm very sure about what I've experienced.
TIA

If you have a spiritualist church near you, you could attend a few times and if no personal messages come through, you can ask for a private session to see if there are answers forthcoming.

It does sound like a benevolent presence, but not ok if your daughter not sleeping.

I was once dog sitting alone in a big house in Dorset and there was a book there written by the owner about the ghosts she had met there. I had a strict word with the house and said that any shenanigans of this kind were completely unacceptable! Me and the dog slept soundly.
Terry Wogan used to say re the small people/spirits, "We don't believe in them, but they're there anyway." Which nicely expresses the duality.

Thank you, yes I've looked into this today and I think I will attend a service and see if anything comes through. I honestly have no experience of any of this so I just wanted to make sure this was an acceptable thing to do. We are not religious at all so I wasn't sure if this would go against us.

Another one here saying you should check the batteries on your carbon monoxide alarm.

I'm pretty sure it's working, it's displaying room temp. Forgive my ignorance but wouldn't this only be relevant if we were using our fireplace? We haven't at all this year.
This was one of the first things that crossed my mind though, having read a few posts like this!

Gas boilers can also leak carbon monoxide if they're faulty

OK, our carbon monoxide alarm is downstairs, boiler upstairs so I guess I should move it upstairs to check.. ?

@User19122024 if you have a gas boiler too

btw the alarm will have a test button you can press so definitely do that - a good thing to do generally.

I'm intrigued, what was the clock incident?

There’s a thread somewhere under my username. Basically the winding chains of my old clock disappeared.

Haha just read a few bits. It's amazing the lengths some people will go to to try and explain these things when in reality you know what you've seen/ experienced is generally impossible 😂

This is the worst thing you can do! Now you WANT to try to get in touch with spirits? You know nothing about them and whether they are malevolent or not. If you want to get rid of them see a vicar, not go searching for more paranormal spirits to contact!!

Aworldofmyown · 21/12/2024 09:24

I would not try the attempting contact route either. When I went through similar about 20 years ago we contacted a local church and asked them to bless the house, not religious either but they we're very happy to help.

Villagetoraiseachild · 21/12/2024 16:58

Spiritualist churches have a firm Christian basis and can help with support and understanding. They are open to newcomers. There are some very skilled readers/ mediums and you may get to hear of a recommendation from someone you trust beforehand, Op.
Also, if your feeling is to invite a vicar or priest for a blessing/ceremony that is also entirely valid.
It's a matter of personal choice. Good Luck, Op.

Godfreydahling · 21/12/2024 17:15

Spiritualist churches do NOT have a Christian basis. It is against Christianity to try to contact the dead or use mediums. It is also dangerous. You don't know what you're dealing with.

User19122024 · 22/12/2024 21:05

Thanks all for your advice. I emailed our local church (at about 6.30am this morning, after I was woken up by footsteps on the landing that went downstairs) and they are happy to set up a meeting with me. I was quite unnerved this morning.

Godfreydahling · 22/12/2024 23:06

Well done contacting the church.

I'm not surprised you're feeling unnerved. I hope they can come and help you soon.

Villagetoraiseachild · 23/12/2024 20:05

Hopefully this will get sorted very soon, Op.
Not good to be frightened in your own home.
Sounds like stuck energy that needs some help to be released and moved on. 🙏

User19122024 · 23/12/2024 20:29

They said they could meet me today or tomorrow but unfortunately I'm working both days. After the footsteps on the landing and then walking down the stairs I just lay there frozen for a bit just listening, I wanted to wake my husband but I knew there would be no point. Went in to my daughters when they both woke up and my eldest straight away ran downstairs, I heard her going from room to room (she always slams doors behiend her) and then she came back up stairs and said 'where's Daddy? He's not in playroom, not in living room?' I said no, he's asleep in bed. She's said 'no, he's downstairs'. We normally have to carry her downstairs in the morning because she refuses to walk 😂 and she knows that the other one of us is always in bed because we take it in turns getting them up in the morning, and she normally comes in.
My husband has his head stuck in the sand and is desperately trying to ignore everything.

FoolishHips · 26/12/2024 22:04

I do believe you (you both heard the steps after all) but just wanted to mention that carbon monoxide rises so do make sure you move the detector. That's why they're best on the ceiling facing downwards.

Cravey · 31/12/2024 13:45

Don't attempt contact it will just ramp up. Check all monoxide alarms, just double check. Then firmly start speaking aloud, please leave us alone. Repeat as necessary. Don't engage apart from the leave us alone. White candle and sage smudge may help, although I'm always unsure if this is us mere mortals needing reassurance, but it won't hurt. Again light the candles and smudge stick and repeat leave us alone. Hope that helps.

Godfreydahling · 02/01/2025 16:43

Any update OP?

User19122024 · 02/01/2025 17:40

Since that morning when I had to email the reverend everything has been quiet and nothing unusual has happened at all! Fingers crossed it stays like this. Thank you for asking 😊

Sleepypupp · 02/01/2025 17:50

Hopefully it stays that way OP. We have had the odd thing like this happen, it usually starts when there’s a bit of upheaval in the house, renovations etc

Yes they do. A different "take" on Christianity, but still a Christian underpinning.
