Do you believe in or have experience of demons or evil spirits?

Following on from other fascinating threads about whether evil exists, I thought this might be an interesting topic.
Not looking for stories of evil humans, or a debate on the nature of evil, just specifically do you think demons or evil spirits exist?
When I was seven or eight, me and my best friend both heard demonic laughter. It terrifies us to talk about it to this day - almost 40 years later!!!

Only on crazy American shows.

I read a book by a U.S. psychiatrist who believes he’s encountered people who were genuinely demonically possessed/oppressed - even though he was v sceptical initially.

Demons are quite specific to the Catholic Church, other faiths have similar equivalents though.

@JudyGemstone this is part of what I find interesting. I am not from a Roman Catholic background, and in fact would describe myself as agnostic at the most. Yet I heard what I heard. Neither me nor my friend have been able to explain it.

I had a weird experience once- three nights in a row I woke up unable to move with this little girl with curly hair curled up on my chest. She was very cute but somehow “felt” evil so I closed my eyes and said the Lord’s Prayer until she went away. After three nights it never happened again. It could just be sleep paralysis but I honestly really felt like she was a demon, I don’t know why.

@riotlady interesting. I've read that some people say demons take the form of children to appear unthreatening.

I know a former child protection social worker who believes in evil and demonic possession. I don’t agree, think some people are just bad bastards, especially to women and children.

Jesus talks about it in the bible and casts out evil spirits so I think I do have a belief but some Christians go over the top with blaming everything on the supernatural itms

I believe and as a child I had an experience that was witnessed by several adults.
It was in our own home , I was 5/6 years old. There had been a accidental death and a suicide in the same house we later found out.

I was in a room with my grandma ( bedroom), the door was closed and she was reading me a bedtime story , I was in bed under the covers and she was sat on the bed.
She had switched to her reading glasses ( this was 43 years ago, no varifocales then ) .
I had been playing with some toys, doing a tea party I believe then everything went back in the toy chest.
We finish the story and as grandma goes to put her other glasses back on she realised they weren't where she had left them, so she put the main light back on and all the toys I'd been playing with are in a sort of tower , about 3 feet high with grandma's glasses on top.
We were the only people in the house at the time.

Grandma took me straight home to her house and refused to let me go home until a priest had blessed the house. Mum and dad had seen other things happen - objects moving ect so they were on board with a blessing.

We moved from the house within 3 months and a couple of years later my elder brother did some research on the property and found the history.

@Pollydonia okay. I am officially spooked now! Sat in my haunted house in silence wfh.

there has been so many things happen over the years in here. We can go 18 months to 2 years with nothing, then the atmosphere changes and loads happens for a few weeks. Things slow down and it’s weekly and then nothing again.

my house is 1600’s. I think there is more than one spirit that comes and goes

No I don't.
My friend is convinced he's being followed by an evil spirit trying to harm him.
Hes been off his anti-psychotics for a year. Make of that what you will.

And while I don't believe evil spirits/possession are real, if they feel real to the person "experiencing" them then that person needs support.

Once I read that there are no bad spirits or demons, just bad energies coming from human beings. Nothing supernatural.

A family member wrote a book about his personal experience with a "demon". Witnessed, apparently, by "clergy " and "the doctor ". He seems convinced.

One of my cousins hears voices and has similar mental issues. He really suffers as for him is 100% real.

At University I lived in student halls.
One night I decided to go to bed so got up from my desk and went towards my door to lock my room.
As I approached the door I heard knocking. I opened it slightly but there was nobody there. I went to close it but suddenly an almighty force pushed me and the door flew open and what can only be described as a black creature with red eyes - about knee high- ran at speed into my room.
It was never seen again.

I spent several nights sleeping in the communal kitchen and moved out shortly after.

The vibe had changed in the room and I felt 'off'.

Don't know if anyone is still on here, but I absolutely believe.
I also do think you get a real feeling of energies. I bought a house this month, and I looked at a LOT of houses. Some houses gave me really uncomfortable feelings, and one of the ways I knew which was the one for me was how I felt in the house.

How strange, I had something very similar. Some random objects placed in a tower in our kitchen. It happened a few times when no one else had been in the room.

Many moons ago my Westie levitated one night. We’d assumed the house was haunted for a while. Also was an instance where a friend of my brothers was staying, one night he said our Irish wolfhound had gone into the spare room where he was sleeping and gave him a nose and a lick then left. The next morning when he told us we pointed out the door was an old barn door and had a latch… scary stuff
