struggling to come up with honest but appealing descriptions of beloved brown horse to tempt potential sharers

they really need to love going hell for leather fun hacks and be able to cope with trying not to gallop into jumps a strong jumper. can I just say fun to hack and a strong jumper, or does that seem like code for hooligan? because he isn't

how do you phrase things to ensure you get suitable applicants?

Forward going - loves jumping! needs confident/competent rider?

fruitshootsandheaves · 10/07/2010 17:37

wanted...
Rupert Campbell Black to share my horse

Alicetheinvisible · 11/07/2010 10:43

Fun horse, looking for fun rider

shufflebum · 11/07/2010 21:32

All of the above and not a novice ride perhaps?

You'll still get numptys coming for a look though whatever you write!

MitchyInge · 13/07/2010 18:36

They can't be more numptyish than me!

He's a novice ride if you just want to plod round the school in walk and trot - very motorbikey in canter, too old to correct this really (and I LIKE it). Just would be better for him if he had someone enthusiastic and competent, I have the enthusiasm at least!

Will combine the above, am bit sad nobody wants him yet (have asked everyone on the bhs courses, some have been looking for ages). I thought the girl who screamed 'holy fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck' over every jump would love him, but this was not an exclamation of happiness apparently.

He's the most beautiful and clever horse in the world. What is wrong with people?

If you are happy to do the mad stuff, you might find someone who wants to plod on their days and it could work quite well. Would he be suitable for that?

Two friends shared a very babyish exracehorse. One did lots of work with him, jumping, cantering etc, the other one just walked and trotted and it worked well because he had so much work with the one rider, the other days he was happy to plod iyswim?

MitchyInge · 14/07/2010 08:59

That could work, at least wouldn't have to worry so much about them getting hurt. He can be lazy in the school in summer and this might be frustrating for someone who isn't strong enough in their leg - they might wallop him and get a surprise!

Am not being picky but a girl who works there said she might be interested but I remember doing the nvq with her and she used to irritate me in a million ways.

I am being picky. I want a teenage Rupert Campbell Black who is warm and fuzzy.

Or someone who will be happy to pay half the livery in exchange for privilege of cleaning his tack and giving him the occasional carrot.

Just make sure you have a trial period of a month first.

Wanted: sharer for lame brown horse

OP posts:
Alicetheinvisible · 15/07/2010 11:49

hard ground?

Butkin · 15/07/2010 12:42

Sorry to hear that Mitchy...

Just on the concept though we have a sharer for my cob who lives in our village. She doesn't pay for anything but the benefit to me is that she helps get him fit for hunting.

I'm not sure how I'd go about getting anybody to pay for the privledge!

MitchyInge · 15/07/2010 12:55

It should be reasonably attractive proposition - a sort of halfway to having own horse thing? Cheaper than full loan, cheaper than lessons.

Hopefully will be sound very very soon, silly thing loosened shoe and twisted it somehow and stood on it driving nail into sole ouch not quite as funny as the one who got a feed bucket inexplicably caught between shoe and foot and perfectly happy to clump about in stable with it attached!

Really they are worth every penny in terms of entertainment value

how did you find your sharer Butkin? Was it quite a natural thing, someone you knew anyway, or did you advertise?

Problem is he is not the sort of horse to excite a really good rider, nor is he completely ideal for those who are newer to all this but want to go out alone or learn how to jump etc. Unless they are slightly mad.

Butkin · 15/07/2010 15:46

Obviously locals found about my cob when I started hacking him about. One of our neighbours said that Penny had lost the horse she used to ride for people and that I should give her a call.

In fairness, although she doesn't pay for anything, she does help to get him fit because she only works part time and she will get them in/turn them our for us - particularly when we're away on holiday and
generally check on their well being.

I'd suggest placing a notice in the local tack shop - in reality I think people on your doorstep are the most suitable.

We've since had a little old lady (looked about 80) offering to ride DD's Section As. Very kind offer but we thought it was too risky!

MitchyInge · 15/07/2010 18:18

Oh I wish I could ride As and Bs, I love their faces and they always seem such characters. Would have to shed half my body weight!

Your arrangement sounds great, I feel greedy but my primary motivation is money - ideally would be someone I know or someone very well known to one of the yards or on the circuit generally. Several people want the pony but he could go disastrously wrong, we're not 'there' yet. If you see him at Topthorne I want you to be impressed! If you know anyone in that area who is actively looking for something to jump/x country - is it cheeky to ask to pass on the info?

OP posts:
Butkin · 16/07/2010 17:24

Roan A will be mooching around at Topthorne this Sunday doing FR unless it rains!

MitchyInge · 16/07/2010 17:41

Ooh good luck, don't fancy your chances with the weather though
