I have a sharer for my horse and it's working well now. My horse is looking a healthy weight for the first time in a long time due to the extra excercise, my tack has never been so clean and the poo-picking is a lot easier with some help. This sharer is pretty good, although can talk the hind legs off a donkey and is a bit of a worrier! Apart from that though she is great with my horse, really does care for her, and is very committed (she has never let me down, turns out my horse and daughter's pony 3 mornings a week and does them 3 evenings a week too.

I've had a few sharers over the years and could probably right a book about the nutters that have come and gone!

My big tip would be to write down everything you want done with your horse, exactly how you like it, and drum it into the sharer for the first few weeks, then slowly ease off and give them some freedom.

Thank you! I just want £££ towards livery and someone to do more x country and show jumping, they wouldn't have to do anything other than commit to 3 days (that gives me 3 days and him 1 day off) but tack cleaning is a fab idea!

Didn't really think of it until friend with a horse also on working livery found a great sharer and ideal workload between them and the riding school. Mine needs work the heavy side of medium to uh you know, stay sane really! But he needs more fun work, I'm not always up to it. Someone somewhere must love him like I do, everyone wants our pony though! Maybe brown ones are an acquired taste? I think he's fab, it can't just be me!

Can I ask how much you charge?

I have the opposite problem, nobody wants our pony! Or should I say our pony doesn't want anyone else! She is brilliant with my 2 girls but as soon as anyone else gets on she either bucks them off or flat out gallops off!

I am in Surrey, in a DIY yard with excellent hacking out the back gate. I charge £100 a month plus jobs on sharers day.

Riding schools round here are around £35-£45 an hour!

There are other owners locally charging as much as £300 a month which personally I think is taking the mick unless the horse is at a top class livery yard.

Our pony does a bit of that too, but mostly he's very giving and a real character. I can't believe my luck (apart from when I'm eating sand)
