How can I keep the god damned pony in the field?!

Small very hairy, very greedy Shetland. She wants the grass on the other side of the electric fence. So she puts her head under, lifts it up, squeezes under and legs it! She uses her giant poofy mane to insulate herself! Am tempted to hog the little bleeder! Ideas anyone?

No ideas but where I used to ride had a pony that was always escaping and usually took a couple with him(all little ones). They were found up to about 10miles away and most of the town knew them. This was on an island and they were regularly seen going over the bridge. He seemed to be electric fence proof.

... with hard work...

more strips of electric tape lower down. I have a friend with minis who has fencing with 5 rows of tape.

I've got three strands already! I have also just plaited her mane and forelock lenghtwise, to stop it acting like a shield. A friend suggested leaving her for a couple of days in a headcollar with some electric tape/ wire wrapped round the headpiece/ browband. When she challenges the fence, she will get a suprise. I'm saving that as a last resort!

Not sure where your paddock is but I know that friends of ours who plug their fence into the home mains are much more powerful than off our car type battery.

Put the three strands near the floor - at least this way they would have to jump out!

No mains unfortunately! Plaited mane and low wire seems to be working so far, touch wood!

I've tried all variations of electric fence on my Shetland - none of them work. At a push this 10.2hh pony can jump a 3'6" electric fence from almost a standstill! I have sheep netting now round a tiny paddock just for her, and that seems to do the job.
