My dd is getting some riding lessons for her birthday -not a lot but its a start and all we can afford and I am very and so I want to get her something to open on her birthday and I though some cheap jodphurs but blow me they all come in inches size... she is an averageish (slightly small height wize but not fat not skinny) -any suggestions to " - don't want to take her to a tack shop to try some on as that would give the game away

About a 24 I'd say - try ebay for some cheap ones

cazzybabs · 02/05/2010 20:15

The Tesco ones are cheap and they do the sizes by age if that helps. here

Alicetheinvisible · 03/05/2010 08:56

I would second the tesco ones, i love them and wear them a lot. Not the best quality, but for £12 they haven't done too badly

Alicetheinvisible · 03/05/2010 08:59

I would just say though, that if getting body protectors and hats, please go to somewhere that will fit them properly. Hats especially

cazzybabs · 03/05/2010 11:12

No I am not buying a hat - riding school has plenty of very good ones and that is a proper investiment rathter than simply 8 weeks worth of lessons which is what it will acuually be until next birthday/christmas...well or my lottery ticket comes up

I am actually also getting her some boots as well for safety but again she needs to try them on

Ebay is very good for jods and boots i believe.

I only mention the hats as i used to work at a riding school and many parents decided they would rather their child have their own hat, but then would get one off Ebay or from carboots etc and they wouldn't fit (wanted them to grow into them ) or their child would have the one that they had as a child themselves, but completely not up to current standard.

My husband nearly died having a fall and banged his head (no horses involved) so I am very very very careful about heads (I even now wear a cycle hat)

I simply meant that if you don't 'know' how a riding hat should fit, it is worth having one fitted as so many people don't know (why should they?) and don't know what the current safety standards are

Alicetheinvisible - I am completely with you .. it would never occur to me to let dd wear either my old one nor buy one from Ebay .. but for only 8 lessons its not worth it

Sorry, i am not very good at explaining what i mean

I hope she enjoys her lessons
