Riding schools near Fleet

Not too sure whether this is the best place for this, but can anyone recommend any schools near Fleet in Hamsphire. I would like my 6yo DD to have a go and also for me to re-start (after a very long time ...)

Many thanks.

Wellington Riding school is supposed to be very good

Ilovemudmovers · 24/02/2010 13:08

CMOTdibbler, yes, but expensive too I think :-( I'm a bit nervous in case DD gets bitten by the bug and the next thing I'm hearing is she wants a pony for Christmas.. Was hoping taht there may be somewhere a little more reasonable.. I did say its a long time since I've been so maybe I'm just out of touch with prices...

I am in Fleet and I know alot of people who use Wellington.

I have also heard of a few in Eversley / Yateley which is not too far?

I found these on Yell.com

Yes, pricey ! My friend lives in Fleet, and I know one of her DDs friends mums rides (but somewhere that doesn't take them till 5, so she hasn't been), so will enquire which it is for you.

DS wants a pony - he's only 3, and I'm fed up of hearing it already. Fortunatly we go to a lovely, but not posh riding school which is v reasonable

£28.50 per 1/2hr expensive !! CMOT - would be really grateful if you could find out, was after a recommendation rather than plucking one from out of thin air (not sure that I could spot a good school any more!)

Bigbadmummy; Eversley and Yateley would be fine, and think that direction would be cheaper than heading towards Farnham.... Will see if I get any more recommendations and if not will resort to calling a few and then going for a gander.

Don't suppose you fancy a drive to Chobham? I have a lovely 13.2 pony I would be willing to let your DD ride in return for some help with stable duties! I also have a 16.2 that you could try..

The pony can put it the occassional buck off the lead but on lead is brilliant. She is fantastic to handle (my 2 yr old brings her in from the field!)

Anyway, may be totally unrealistic for you but thought it was worth an ask :-)

Ilovemudmovers · 24/02/2010 14:55

LisaD1 - wow that would be really kind, although I think ultimately DD needs proper lessons too (and I may need some refreshers!). Can I email/cat you later please ?

Happy to teach your DD (no formal qualifications but have taught DD and nieces to ride) would ask for a small financial contribution for that or happy for an outside instructor to come in.

Anyway, email me at [email protected]

Hi lisa, I've mailed you! Cheers!

I can recommend Wellington. The standard of teaching IME is very good - my daughter has ridden there for about 3 years. As with most RS they insist on some initial half hour private assessment lessons to start, before being allocated to a group lesson. If you join as a member and buy a block of 5 or 10 lessons it actually works out cheaper than many other schools within a 15 mile radius. Weekday after school lessons are less populated generally than weekend lessons and IME you can often find your child is being taught in a group of 2-4 rather than 6-8, particularly at the higher end of lessons - my daughter has just 2 others regulars in her group, she's 10 and goes pretty much every week, the other 2 are 15-17 and seem to be bogged down with exams and don't come every week, so progress is good.

Wellington has excellent facilities and lovely horses.

www.ukhorseriderguide.com has riding schools across the UK and you can read/write reviews.
