Does anyone know what i mean ? its like a basket attached to a girth that you can put little ones in before they are really old enough to ride

Found these here Bit pricey although if you're planning lots of horsey DCs it's worth it. Also worth it for the cuteness factor.

I saw one on ebay a little while ago. Bet they don't come up very often though.

Pixel · 23/02/2010 20:09

Blimey, just looked at ebay out of nosiness interest and there are three on there!

Owls · 23/02/2010 20:17

Pixel, I've just had a look as well and seems they hold their value don't they! Just used to plonk them on in any old saddle in my day.

I don't know what area you are in but, near Baldock (hertsfordshire) there is a little saddlery run by a couple of old ladies and they used to have all sorts sitting in there (basket saddles, side saddles etc) alternatively there is always an advert in the back of H&H for them.

Alicetheinvisible · 24/02/2010 08:51

On that site that Owls linked to, doesn't that grey look like a bit of a shit?

Owls · 24/02/2010 08:55

Alice, hadn't spotted that before but you're right. The eye has it!

MiffyWhinge · 24/02/2010 09:11

hahaha, definitely plotting something

Whiteybaby · 24/02/2010 14:10

Alice I live near that shop run by the old ladies and hadn't even thought of them selling basket seats! Would love to use one for dd. How young can they be do you think??When I was young I used to help out at local riding school and the owners son was put in one.. he rides for GB dressage now

Alicetheinvisible · 24/02/2010 14:35

In the pics on Owls link they look about a year - 18m. Would be very tempted if DD had her own pony. The synthetic 'safari' saddles for littlies are quite good too as add extra support, will look for one now.....

Alicetheinvisible · 24/02/2010 14:38

here

Whitey - my grandma used to work there years ago, all my family are in the area, and we did PC round there. Are you still there?

pandora69 · 24/02/2010 17:27

We bought one form the linkg Owls gave after searching without success for a second hand one. When they do come up they are usually not in pristine condition and yet still come in at about £150. DD loved it from the first time she sat in it, using it from the age of 5 months up to about 22 months. Then, although she was not too big for it, she leant against the side of it and as the pony is roughly completely spherical it would tip to one side. She was happy to sit on a cub saddle after that.

Mine managed to stay in very good condition right up until I put both neddies in the trailer fully tacked up (we use the pony as a 4-legged pram sometimes when I go to my friend's for a lesson.) Big horse wondered on the journey if it was edible and there was a nibbled bit when we got there .

I still get a lot of people ask if I will sell it to them, but I am saving it for number 2.

Butkin · 03/03/2010 13:10

By the time DD was 2 she was riding comfortably in a Safari cub saddle with handle and raised cantle. That lasted her well until she was about 4/5 and even now we use if for lunging and breaking.

bumpsoon · 16/03/2010 13:04

completely forgot i started this ,will start saving my pennies up for this ,it will be easier for my friend and i to lead a shetland down muddy lanes than push a pushchair while we take it turns to ride the 'proper' horse !

Hi, I have a really nice one for sale - it's hardly been used, and has a nice high wicker back (necessary for tots as when pony starts off in walk they tend to rock backwards in the seat & their heads can whiplash if back not high enough!), it has padded underneath for pony and seat for tot (all of which can be washed separately) - I used a polypad under it, 2 straps each side for standard girth (this gives more stability than the 1 strap variety) and a crupper strap attached plus safety harness for child (though I used a toddler walking harness in mine as well). It took me months to find it, it's in lovely condition and I'm looking for £250 - could post (I'm in Somerset). Everyone who has seen it says it's the best they've seen - highly recommend!

tinkles1976 · 07/05/2010 15:45

Hi, is your saddle basket still available ? ? If so i am really interested my little girl loves riding the ponys but she is still too little to hold her seat and i have been looking everywhere for one!!

Macdog · 07/05/2010 16:14

Alicetheinvisible · 07/05/2010 18:47
