How typical is that?

I rode this morning for the first time in 3.5 weeks. It was absolutely pouring with rain, and despite waterproofs got soaked to the skin. My nicely cleaned tack now needs cleaning and oiling again and my poor horse has only just dried out.

I couldn't ride this afternoon as waiting for BT repair man to come and guess what? It's sunny, warm and the sky is blue. It's not fair!

aw, unlucky! hope you had a nice time anyway?

as if we have not waited long enough for weather to improve - it's a bit squelchy out there, I would ride tonight but actually a bit achey from recent days

am secretly loving the energy they've stored up over those snowy weeks, obviously does us all good to have a break now and then?

Pixel · 22/01/2010 19:44

Improve? When did the weather improve? I must have missed it! Was poo-picking in sleet on wednesday and it's been pouring all day today as well. The mud is so deep I actually got stuck and narrowly avoided sitting down in it.
We'd better get a decent summer after all this, that's all I can say.

MitchyInge · 22/01/2010 19:57

mud is an improvement on all that lethal ice

have enjoyed driving in it again anyway and splattering it everywhere

and it's so green again, and birds are singing in the morning and evening - spring is coming, it can't be long now!

Owls · 22/01/2010 22:35

Well rain here again. All day. Sob. But yes the birds were singing at some point I know as had the same thought, Spring is on it's way, yay! Also had 5 eggs so am happy!

Pixel · 22/01/2010 23:41

Well it is getting a bit lighter in the evenings I suppose...

MitchyInge · 23/01/2010 09:11

I think some of the chooks from up the lane are laying in our nesting box, as am regularly getting 3 a day from my 2 - and one of them is a bit tatty (in fact that is her name, she only has one eye)

it definitely takes each chicken about 22-24 hours to make one egg doesn't it?

Pixel · 23/01/2010 16:08

I don't know about chickens but we used to have a couple of ducks when I was a kid. They were definitely laying two eggs a day each at one point. We ended up with so many we were selling the surplus to pay for their layers pellets.

MitchyInge · 24/01/2010 11:15

I would love some ducks too, but there is only so much slimy poo my garden can accommodate safely

anyway look > > > > NICE DAY out there

am going to work on straightness and bend and the perfect half circle (10 and 20 metre) - good luck me, someone fell off Barney yesterday (was their own fault of course, it always is) and Joey has been insanely excited

I got out again yesterday morning, although the road was a bit icy so we tiptoed the first bit. Fields are wet and squelchy so only walking although horse decided that it would be better to passage and half pass our way round. So for just over an hour we did just that - I was knackered at the end, my arms hurt and legs ache and he was covered in sweat, but very happy!

My fields are now all boggy in the gateways, and my poor white pony is more brown than anything else.

Roll on some dry weather.

YES to the dry weather - glad you got out though and it sounds like it was entertaining in an unplanned sort of way?

got new boots (early birthday present ) at weekend and they are caked in mud already - grrrrr

mummydoc · 25/01/2010 16:32

I WANT SUN + WARMTH AND NO MUD NOW

frostyfingers · 25/01/2010 17:08

I know! I've spent a while today trawling the internet looking at villas in France. Not that we can afford it, just need to see some sun and blue sky.

Off to go and shovel poo, tidy stables and let the buggers out for the night to make more muddy mess in what's left of my field. In fact I could have hired it out as a skating rink for a good few weeks, now it would suffice as an outdoor mudbath for any passing hippos!
