have decided this will be the year of shinier coats - everyone seems to swear by a different product and I was overwhelmed by the choice in feed shop yesterday so what do they all do?

linseed, flax, omega 3, cod liver, soya - think there were plenty more besides, do you have a favourite you'd recommend?

and also to put a bit more effort into grooming instead of just flicking off the obvious bits of mud and thinking that will do

Slow cooking linseed is very easy.

can you make a big batch and then freeze it in portions do you know?

sorry, this could probably be googled

Don't know about freezing. It's all coming back to me now (I'm old), as a "young" teenager we were living in a rented house with a solid fuel aga and we cooked linseed once a week to go in a bran mash after (hmm.........hunting........runs away fast).

I then went on to work in a show hunter/dealing/hunting/team cross country (inc. HRH P of Wales!) and I have a distinct memory of a calor gas (v slightly dangerous) fired large boiler that we cooked "mash" & linseed in. Horses were glowing with health, but then we did have a major grooming session every afternoon. Happy days

This thread prompted me to google my old employer (when I was 16/17!!!) www.davidtatlow.com/

ahhhh hunting

it is not going to happen for me this season after all, was my Plan but am not really 'riding fit' enough (also want someone more experienced to take my horse first in case he kills us both )

Hunting..... [drools] Missed the whole season this year being BFP but can't wait for next year.

I bet David Tatlow was interesting to work for, he looks like one of the proper old school breed of true horsemen. My old boss was a bit like that - not the most modern ideas (what do you mean, the saddle doesn't fit? Its on the pony's back isn't it?) but sooooo knowledgable.
