I have become kinda addicted to the tackroom ! is this sad ? should I post in AIBU ? I love loggin on to hear everyones' up dates on what their ponies are up to ... mitchy's stable jumper, seakers split personality arab etc etc. and all your reassuring words about my on going " which pony saga" are great . I have al ovely yard full of great people who offer advice but somehow cyber advice from strangers seems often more sensible and less emotional. Keep it up girls ....( oh and boys)

good, am not alone

it IS nice in here isn't it? so what do you think you'll do about Noddy and Perdy, would it be mad to keep them both?

(are you recovering well btw?)

mummydoc · 19/01/2010 08:24

welllll....on the boob op recovery position things are pretty dire, I got necrosis , ended up in hospital week before xmas, got a bit better but last week pain big time and oozing pus ( hope you have strong stomachs) again, stuck myself back on antibiotics but not getting much better, probably doing too much as been up helping at yard etc, today feeling a bit shakey etc so know something is not right. seeing consultant tonight ...think i have a deep abscess and can foresee another trip to hospital. But consutlant here in herford has said care at private clinic so bad i really ought to sue. as a fellow medic feel uncomfortable about htis but barrister friend said to do it as in pain, lots of gruesome scars etc...and my best friend said " ohh you will get enough money to buy a hoys pony!". as for the ponies i know noddy really needs to go but everyone at yard loves him, dd2 loves him and he has the ability to "do" dd2 for a good few yrs cause he jumps, is smart enought to do whp/county showing etc. i am nervous of him though. Perdy is settling a bit but she kicks the other horses and can be mareish so not sure how great sje will be in long run . also it is tricky to sell at present , there seems to be so many LR/FR ponies out there ....ahhhhhhhhh

MitchyInge · 19/01/2010 08:40

that sounds utterly horrific, what do you do if antibiotics don't work, do you drain it surgically? no wonder it all feels so uphill

maybe clinic will offer something worthwhile the moment you put in a claim, just to settle, got to be worth a try - then you can have a whole new pony to worry about

Owls · 19/01/2010 09:05

Mummydoc, poor you that sounds really grim. Not sure either Noddy or Perdy are what you're looking for are they really? So difficult isn't it to get the right child's pony.

I am also a Tack Room fan but never seem to get to spend much time here. Damn real life getting in the way.

We have dry day here if a little dull and grey, but am off for a hack later. Whoo hoo!

MitchyInge · 19/01/2010 09:09

good luck Owls!

Owls · 19/01/2010 09:12

Thank you! Am already in 'driiiffffttttttt' mode and not going out until after lunch!

mummydoc · 19/01/2010 09:16

must say very tempted by thought of big pay out to fund getting the right pony for both girls. is that really awful of me...? I am usually very anti our litiginous society but greed is creeping in a bit....would love top class m+m pony , can just see me poncing round HOYS leading dd2 on some divine dapple grey pony . actually complete fantasy ...dd2 is quite wild and only wants "to go faster" and i can see she is goign to be an eventer, only time she went in show ring her hair ribbons had come untied before she ahd doen one go round! think st trinians meets thelwell ! Mitchy you are right it is an uphill battle , i know if i hadn't had op and complicatiosn sorting out ponies would be ok, i could do the work with both of them, get tehm really going well, or sort out loan for noddy . ahh well roll on summer.

I must say I'm also an addict. What a lovely supportive and knowledgable bunch you all are.

When choosing grand daughter's pony I did come to the conclusion that it would be easier to choose her a future husband than a first pony!

Mummydoc, it sounds hideous! I'd sue them if I were you, there's a difference between being litigious and being compensated for being caused pain by someone's incompetence. Dapple grey pony would be lovely, my favourites too (apart from Ben who's bay and utterly gorgeous)

I'm going riding later (as working from home today, tee hee) This will be my 4th lesson since I started riding again and I hope to be brave enough to canter. I wish I had the bottle I had when I was younger!

mummydoc · 19/01/2010 11:08

bloody ponies - yard manager just rang to say noddy is stiff in backlegs - well yes he often is abit foirst hting in the morning just walk him down to field and it stretches out. I guess i find this obsession with the minutiae of the ponies a little tedious , as i have full time job and am frankly not that interested in wether they are a little stiff after 1st day back at work or someone isn't eating all their haynet. Is that a little tetchy ?

New plan just come to me:

sell both LR ponies, get compesation ( likely to be around £10,000) get both girls loan ponies and use money to buy myself a lovely sensible pony to ride when my boobs better ! tehn is girls ponies not right can give them back and get mitchy to knit them one

Yep you are being a little bit tetchy I think but probably forgiveable as you are feeling so ill.

pandora69 · 19/01/2010 13:29

Mummydoc, please take my advice here - step away from the greys! They are trouble. If there is a small puddle in a huge bone-dry field they find it and roll in it. You will have to join a big showing forum to discover how to get it's tail to be 'not yellow.' And the dapples only last a couple of years then they go snow white.

I speak with the voice of someone who is just emerging from a 6 year fog of every spare moment spent scrubbing her grey horse. At Ponies UK one year I put him in his nice clean earth-floor stable for 5 minutes unattended while I went to the trailer to get a bale of shavings after a 4 hr journey. When I got back he had tipped his bucket out onto the floor, pooed and wee'd in it too, pawed at it to churned it into a smelly filthy mess, then rolled in it.

I had a moment of clarity about 2 months ago, and am now selling him to buy something brown (and not scared of ponies, buts that's another story and not related to him being grey.)

MitchyInge · 19/01/2010 17:01

how DO you make their tails not yellow, seriously?

Pixel · 19/01/2010 17:14

Ditto appaloosas. I know. Mine was a magnet for grass stains, stable stains etc, especially on a show morning. Luckily his mane and tail were 'blonde' so I didn't have to worry about getting them bluey white.
Our first pony was fleabitten grey and one day a visitor to the yard recognised him as his daughter's old pony (lots of distinguishing marks, prophet's thumb etc), and dug out some old photos to show us. And there he was, the most beautiful dapple grey with a black mane and tail and black legs, just like a rocking horse. He was gorgeous. Shame he was a mud-monster by the time we got him!
Mummydoc, I do hope you feel better soon, what you've been through sounds awful.

Pixel · 19/01/2010 17:15

You can get special shampoos that bring out the whiteness.

pandora69 · 19/01/2010 18:42

How to get a yellow tail white;
Soak tail below dock in boiled hot water with laundry stain remover. Rinse. Wash with 'blue' shampoo - leave this in for about 5 mins but not too long, you'll end up with a blue rinsed tail! Rinse. Slather with cheap conditioner. Rinse. Dunk in bucket containing cold water, white vinegar and Supreme Blue. Do NOT rinse this time. Leave to drip dry, then spray through with detangling spray.

I did this every weekend for years, now I just want a horse with a brown or black tail. Don't get me wrong, big horse is fabulous but soooo high maintainance.

MitchyInge · 19/01/2010 21:42

ah thanks, will try that

(although after his antics this evening do not CARE what colour his tail is, just No More Rodeo, PLEASE)

mummydoc · 20/01/2010 10:18

ooohhh mitchy what happened ... we hav ebloody snow again today so no lunging or long reining for my 2 agaIN.

OP posts:
MitchyInge · 20/01/2010 19:49

bucked a lot and took off at extraordinary speed - suppose is best just to let them get it out of their system sometimes? he settled down but heart was in mouth watching daughter on him!

mummydoc · 21/01/2010 16:29

which of your 2 was this , the sideways jumper of the stable hurdler ? I know on eis called joey - not sure what hieght/kinda pony he is though.

OP posts:
MitchyInge · 21/01/2010 21:59

Joey the stable hurdler he's 13.2, coloured - pics still on profile I think. He was a bit fresh again tonight, bit excited but settled after a while and worked very nicely. I forget that even though he's 6, he's really quite a baby

Barney's 15.3, brown and old enough to know better
