still a bit too icy tonight but think will be ok by tomorrow, definitely by Saturday if these tropical (eg: above zero) temperatures continue

am not scared of hurting self, it's trauma to the horse that plays on my mind but the rain will wash it all away

it is raining and warm ( well 6 degrees ) here in south herefordshire , i am hoping that rain will dissolve snow and we can lunge both ponies on sunday and then let girls ride in the school to see how things go. Plan to lunge/ride Perdy as mucha s possible next 2-3 weeks with a view to putting adds out to sell her at end of jan /beginning of feb. Must stuff calmer dwon Noddy today and tomorrow ...( wanders off to get another valium for herself) .
p.s. this cd you all speak of , do you think it would help a very nervous mummy ? the kids love riding our slightly nutty noddy but i am very anxious around him ?

Well they have different cds for different things. this is where I got my cd from (the hacking one) so maybe you could ask them what they suggest?

Argh, I should have kept quiet, I've tempted fate. Lady couldn't manage hay delivery yesterday after all. She was supposed to come this morning instead but it is pouring here and we have to barrow it all along to our haystore. Last time we had to do that in the rain we ended up chucking a load away after it went mouldy from being put away wet.
Supposed to be coming Monday now, hope it stays fine!

Pixel · 16/01/2010 13:53

Should have said hope it becomes fine as it obviously isn't now.

it's awful here too

thought I'd be brimming with excitement at first opportunity to ride but it's sooo wet and miserable

and I feel really cold, which is mad considering have been out for hours day after day in sub-zero temperatures lately, up to knees in snow - yet now it is technically warmer I feel really ill!

Lovely sunny day here as well and v happy to report good boys here too.

Hurrah!

Hurray - managed to ride Saturday and Sunday after two weeks break. I was very worried that my mare would be silly/sharp after the time off but she was steady as a rock...and that was hacking out, which is often a bit, er, "interesting" on her. However as all the horses have had daily turnout despite the snow, and her feed was cut quite drastically, we had a quiet reintroduction to work.

The snow which was forecast for midweek has also been changed to rain...so dare I hope for a few good sessions in the school AND being able to have my lesson on Saturday?!

Got DD's ponies and the connemara exercised yesterday for the first time in over a month.

Connemara in go faster mood but the ponies were well behaved. They seemed to be needing something to think about - the palomino had been agitated for over a week and even fly bucked at a passing Tesco van on Friday!

frostyfingers · 18/01/2010 14:29

Got all excited and thought I'd get out yesterday, but a check of the roads revealed sheet ice still, and when I walked the dogs the fields were either rock hard or boggy so I'm glad I didn't in the end. Lovely long walk though and saw 2 red kites being frisky! No chance to ride now until Weds, and guess what's forecast for then.....snow, grr..

lovely sunday morning, yard to me 2 dds and yard manager. DD1 rode her elderly grumpy loan pony ( well she has sort of 1/8th loan) and he was ....well grumpy but resisted the urge to do anything naughty was just unweilling. Then dd1 rode Perdy who had been less than perfect the few time we rode her pre my op and complications and snow and she was a dream, dd1 rode her off lead and she went so nicley, dd2 then decided to ride her aswell and again went so nicely like a proper LR pony. We didn't ride nutty noddy but today I lunged him , he was better than previous efforts but still went into stress mode back away snorting in terror when i came up to him at one point and the lunge line was wavign around a bit. Tehn got light weight friend to ride him - she described him as "umm very responsive". I really really wish i had never got into ponies now, do not know which to sell which to keep, know dd1 needs her own pny , so have to sell one of the other 2 to fund it.......should have stuck to pet chickens.

fun to read all your updates - have missed you all!

sorry it has been a bit stressy mummydoc - sounds like Perdy is the one you'd prefer to keep?
