Clip (clop!)

I am just preparing to start the whole stabling at night routine for our loan pony and in conjunction with this her new forest hairiness is causing much discussion.

Clearly she will need to be clipped and I am wondering if I just go for the chase clip?

DD rides 2/3 times in a school week - weather permitting - just light schooling or hacking and then does more at weekends - sometimes showjumping etc.

Also, very interested to know what you pay for clipping where you are?

Can you get a friend to do it for free?

We just do a bib clip on the Sec As.

I'd say clip off a little to start with and if the pony sweats in a particular place then that is what needs to come off next!

Then of course they will need to be rugged at least at night.

We clip our ponies/horses ourselves. Could you buy/borrow some clippers and have a go - it is quite easy to do and would save you a fortune in the long run.

By the way I do a blanket clip on my hunting cob - leaving his legs on. Clipping is so dependent on the type of horse/pony and what you want to do with them over the Winter.

Thanks for that - I guess I could have a go myself - I know the pony stands nice and still and doesn't fuss. If I go a bit wrong I could just invent a new name for the clip!

Don't think I can do much today anyway as I've just got back from my weekly riding lesson and realised I have no sense of balance left.

I will never be able to hold my jumping position - poor horse i was learning on must have just been thinking 'get this daft woman off me!'
