Excited for new Pony

That is all really, just excited and wanted to share.

Getting a new one for dcs me.

I am well aware that they are too young (after a few weeks of arguing and silences between me and dh) but he now understands that it really is a project and therapy for me.

Would a 5 year old be ok in the cub saddle? I have a bouncy exmoor who is lovely but I would just like the comfort of a handle for daughter. Please give me your thoughts/experience

Our daughter outgrew her cub saddle by 5 because the flaps were restricting her leg movement etc.

Once outgrown I'd just recommend you buy a strap which clips on the D rings of whichever saddle you go for.

I don't think they do body protectors for 1yos but when our daughter started riding properly (just before 2) she wore the plastic cycling helmet with foam pads which offered her plenty of protection. Then we got her first proper riding helmet when she was about 2 1/2 - you'll have to check out small the first Charles Owen one is.

Why did you look at the driving site - do you plan to also drive your pony? Horsequest is usually one of the best places to find enticing beasts!

butkin yes mmmmm Horsequest is lovely.

I spent hours on the driving site and saw lots that appealed to me. (not just driving)

I would love to have a go at driving, my mums friend is going to teach me with her pony, and if I like it then who knows.

Just wondering what you all use under the Cub Saddle??

I just use the numnahs that belonged to my old pony. I usually go for the sheepskin-effect one because it is nice and thick. It's surprising though, as they are cob size I expected them to look enormous but from pommel to cantle they only just fit really. You can see from the pics of shetland on my profile that there is quite a bit of numnah showing at the bottom but not as much as you'd think. It's also deceiving when you buy girths. I measured dshetland but when the girth came and it was actually done up it was far too big and I had to exchange it (ended up with 16", it's so cute). My friend has just bought a cub and done exactly the same thing!

Btw, ds has got plenty of room in the saddle despite how the pics look. He insists on sitting right at the back of any saddle unless I constantly nag. He just does it to wind me up!

Pixel we put a cottage Craft dressage girth on our Safari Cub as the straps are designed for that type rather than a conventional one.

It has been the only time we've let DD choose her numnah - she got a pink oblong one with a pony emblem on it from Burghley. Since moving on from the Cub she has been stuck with more boring brown fleece ones shaped to fit her current saddle.

We've got the cottage craft dressage as well, it's just that I mis-judged the size when I ordered the first one.

I'm always seeing dear little numnahs etc that I'd love to get for the shetland but I can't really go too mad as she isn't mine. I did get her a pink rubber bit as her owner had supplied a big heavy one that had worn in the middle, and at Hickstead I succumbed to a pink headcollar with matching fly-fringe. It's the only time I get to buy pink or bling as dhorse is a big tough cob and would look ridiculous. Luckily ds doesn't really care what he looks like!
