Sweet Itch :(

My Dartmoor pony's sweet itch has got so bad I am giving her away as I cannot sell her. But in the meantime my attempts to treat it are making me crazy.

She won't eat feed with supplements and won't keep a rug on, the cream that was being used on loan (she has just been returned to me only 6 weeks into the loan) obviously has not been working, so today I bought some spray with tea tree that is for sweet itch. I also picked up a sample of the global herbs stuff for sweet itch, but as usual she would not touch her feed with it in, I am in despair. It is really bad and getting worse. She gets so wound up if she is stabled for long, but maybe that is what will have to happen.

Any suggestions???

Can I just second the use of Nettex brewers yeast and Itch Stop.

This time last year we had been using Cavalesse for about 3 months in conjunction with Deet spray and Leo had already rubbed his face, mane and tail badly whilst wearing a rambo protector rug.

This year we are feeding Nettex brewers yeast daily and using Nettex itch stop once a week along with a daily spray of Avon Skin so Soft and citronella oil. He's still naked and to date (fingers crossed and touching wood!} has not so much as ruffled a hair yet.

In terms of cost his current regime is costing a fraction of last years and is certainly working very well for us.

Hi there, try giving your fussy pony Marmite (or similar) sandwiches, ours absolutely adore them as this is basically brewers yeast

Please don't put petrol on your horses! The skin is the largest organ and you wouldn't use a petrol inhaled would you!?

I've just bought some Switch for Dds lousy yearling. It was £36 from the vet, but when I googled it, I found it online for £26. You pour it onto the crest and rump.

The bottle is 250mls, 40ms weekly dose for a horse.
