Is anyone using Cavalesse yet? I am and I'm not sure if we're having a negative reaction.

Cavalesse is the latest sweet itch treatment available. It's a vit B based treatment, give in a liquid form daily to suppress the immune response to midge bites.

I think we may be a little less itchy than we were without but we are also going loopy!

My normally super sane cob has started to be so silly and spooky in the last week. I realise this could be a bit of spring fever (although we still don't have any grass to speak of) but he's been on the Cavalesse for 2 weeks and the change in his behaviour is very noticeable. He is only just 5 but will normally hack out anywhere, with or without company, pass anything and is generally saint like. Today he jogged and spooked non stop for the first half hour of our hack and was only marginally better for the rest of the time.

Just wondered if anyone has experienced similar? I know it shouldn't happen in theory as it is a natural product blah, blah blah, but..................

Hi there guys I am new on here and found the site by accident I also have a horse with sweet itch and tried all the usual lotions and potions and nothing worked I am now using camarosa and have had fantastic results the only time he ever rubs now is when we need to wash off and start again with a new application which is usually once fortnight ,I do have to top it up every other day on his face but apart from that he now has a full mane and tail

We have a sweet itch horse and this year has been our best ever. We started just before the midge season by increasing his brewers yeast and linseed and things went really well. We upped the brewers yeast because we sell it, so have access to large amounts of it, but also because it contains B vitamins. For years now people have been feeding marmite to horses as a fly repellant and this seemed an easier way rather than getting black goo stuck all over you.

A few friends started talking about Cavalesse so we have given this a go as well. As I say, it is his best year ever, not sure if this is entirely due to the Cavalesse but as something is working we are not going to change it!

My only gripe with Cavalesse is that the lotion will run out before the solution. As the lotion contains Niacin, which is from the 'B' familly, and Aloe does as well, we will probably switch to aloe gel when this runs out.

In terms of cost next year we will probably not use the Cavelesse and continue the season just with the brewers yeast and linseed and see how we get on.

Hey,

I'm a vet student in Paris. I hear about this new product named Cavalesse, I think it works pretty well on sweet icht affected horses.

About your horse becoming loopy, it canot be because of Cavalesse, Nicotinamine does not change horses behavior. Still, sweet itch may affect your horses behavior, so maybe this is a decond effect o the itch.

Hello. my pony has had sweet itch for the 8 years i have had her and have recently been giving her large teaspoonful of marmite in her dinner daily. This contains a B vitamin similar to that in the cavalesse and recently she has had more energy and behaves like an idiot on hacks when she is normally a saint. I have yet to see whether it has helped her Sweet itch or not! this is quite an interesting dscovery as i am currently completing my dissertation at college on sweet itch and this has cropped up a couple of times.

Don't know if this is of any help to anyone i work with animals and we had a donkey that would rub herself raw with sweet itch our vet used to give her a steroid injection probably about once every 4-6 weeks which worked well but can bring on laminitis which is really not good as im sure we all know in the horsey world, we saw an advert for cavalesse gave it a go and she has been really great still little itchy but does not rub her coat away or get sores. We also have a clydesdale with really bad itchy legs and had rubbed her tail away to, she has been on cavalesse for about a year now and her tail is coming back her legs are not as itchy either!! i am about to try it on my cob for his itchy legs, wish me luck cause he keeps busting his stable to scratch argh!!!
