after seeing and hearing him raving about the one he was riding when having a lesson.

...so ..if anyone knows of a shetland looking a new home, hampshire direction....let me know.

Would join my other sons, welsh c, my quarter horse and the 2 new forest youngsters.

Try a few of the equine charities. They are up to their ears at the moment and may well have something suitable. Good luck and don't forget to let us know all about the new arrival when you've found one!

Are you sure you really want a Shetland? There are some nice ones but a lot are willful and your LO may outgrow it quite quickly.

Have you considered Sec A's as well?

Ronaldinhio · 24/01/2009 21:54

shetland = crocodile in hair

mysterymoniker · 25/01/2009 11:16

wish I was small enough to ride a shetland!

at dh suggesting getting another pony!

LadyOfWaffle · 25/01/2009 20:07

Markets have loads, you need a vet/someone knowledgable to come with you though. They are usually bought up by the meat man A friend of mine bought one she saw when visiting to buy a riding horse for herself, he was such a lovely little pony! I saw a pair go for £36 once

PoloPlayingMummy · 28/01/2009 22:46

Are you sure about a Shetland? Chuffin' scary most of them and very quickly outgrown.

cazboldy · 02/02/2009 18:48

Our shetland is lovely - a real treasure

I know they can be little monsters, but if you find the right one, you are onto a winner

Good Luck

I agree with Cazboldy, ours is an absolute angel. People always say they get outgrown quickly but ds is nearly 9 and looks perfectly ok and even dd who is 13 in a few weeks has a go as she is very skinny and light (and I'm sure pony could easily carry more weight, we just err on the side of caution as she is elderly and doesn't belong to us). Just get a 'proper' shetland instead of a mini .

mysterymoniker · 03/02/2009 09:02

any luck eve?

chloeb2002 · 10/02/2009 22:51

you do get good ones although id agree in general there are more shitlands than shetlands out there! Buy one young if (as you sound!) you have experience... they have less baggage and generally you can keep them honest! DD had a great shetland we bought as a three year old she backed him and had great fun till we moved. about to do the same thing again with ds in a few months time!

pamplemousse · 10/02/2009 22:56

OMG you lucky thing
I'm campaigning hard for a cat at the moment, working up to a pony!!

Eve · 19/03/2009 09:41

no... no luck yet..

still looking. Saw a superb one, but was sold the same day it was advertised and I was too slow calling.

Eve, If you live near Suffolk and would like a show quality skewbald shetland I know of one which may soon be available. As Shetlands go (and I'm not generally a fan) he is gorgeous. He won't be cheap though.
