Pony Club mums

Not too keen on topic title (now if it was Sylvanians...) but heh-ho.

Anyway how many of you are pony club mums and have you remembered to renew your subscription?

Did you get asked (ie required...) to assist with your area's activities this year?

What are your little ones getting up to over the Winter. How are they getting on with the cold weather and are you leaving your ponies out or are they snuggled up at night?

As mentioned in the horsey thread, on chat, we're off to our first Winter show of the year on Sunday and DD (nearly 6) has her first Pony Club event since before Christmas next Wednesday (flat/jumping class).

Looking forward to hearing how your are getting on and roll on the better weather...

Bumping for you.

Butkin, I've never been a pony club mum, or daughter come to that, but this appears to be the only sane thread so far.

All the meanies are bullying us but I think they are just jealous LOL.

Anyway, I'd love to take ds to ponyclub but there doesn't seem to be much point without transport. Do you think I could fit dshetland into the boot of a Renault Laguna if I take ds's buggy out first?

Butkin · 10/01/2009 14:22

Thanks Pixel. I'm amazed, considering the number of MNetters, that more people aren't pony club mums. Everybody seems keen to talk about their riding but not their children but maybe they will find a home on this topic soon.

Butkin, I used to be one! A Pony Club mum that is.

DD1 is now at Uni but we have lots of happy memories.

Joined when she was 6/7 and had to be nominated then by existing member - not sure if that's still the case. We kept her pony out all the time he was a Section A and stubborn devil. Worse times were 5.30am dragging him in from the field to get him cleaned up and looking respectable for rallys.

DD1 remembers her Pony Club days with so much affection though it really is worth it.

I used to help out as much as I could. Ours was a really friendly club although I have heard some can be ..... errmmmm .... not so friendly. Summer Camp we used to put our names on a list for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner duty.

Let me know if there's anything I can help you with although my memories could be a bit hazy!

Dd1 had a year off from Pony Club but wants to rejoin this year (that reminds, I must get on and do that). We usually get asked to help at camp, even if it is only to keep up the supply of cakes and the annual Hunter Trials for fence judges.

My ponies live out but they are Natives and it's the cheapest way to keep them. Due to me being pregnant most of last year and the atrocious weather the ponies aren't fit so realistically it'll probably be Easter before we get going again properly.

Hi Snoring and Snorris, DD enjoyed her outing to the show today - my it was cold in the wind but luckily the class was indoors.

Pony was lazy though and came second. He qualified again for the PUK Winter Champs and we'll probably go although I think his showing days are coming to an end and we'll concentrate on Pony Club and hunting. He'll also be great to bring her off the lead rein as we know he'll never wizz off.

She enjoys pony club and is going on Wednesday night where there will be a maximum of 6 little ones in her class (half flat work and half jumping). She'll be off the lead for the flat but back on the lead for the jumping.

We've signed up to help with lunches and fence judging this year. At least one thing (including dressage writing, show set ups, organisation or car parking etc) was compulsory.

Trouble is we will rarely be at an event when DD won't need our assistance but we are keen to do our bit.

Well done!!

I think our main aim this year is to take dd1's pony (NF) to the New Forest Show again and finally get to the Breed Show (with PC camp in between!). NFS isn't until the end of July so we've got plenty of time .

I'm one step closer with the PC membership. The form has been filled, just need to write the cheque & post it!

Eve · 11/01/2009 18:26

Hello,

I'm thinking of joining PC for my 2 boys...both are comin gon well and would benefit from PC teaching, but heard some horror stories about the cliques and put downs...

..so guess best bet is to join, do the rallies and camp, and avoid the pushy mums.

Someone please reassure me that its not all like this.. and not every child has a top class push button pony that wins everything.

I have a hairy, fat , dirty , unfit welsh sec c.

Eve · 11/01/2009 18:27

...and hi Snorris....

have you had the baby yet... you must have by now??

will you be doing any gymkannas this year?

snorris · 11/01/2009 19:24

Baby is now 5 weeks old .

Not sure if I'll be doing the gymkhanas but dd1 certainly wants to so probably see you there anyway.

As for PC mums & push button ponies- not in this household . Actually, most of the mums I've met at my local PC have been very friendly and quite "normal"! Might not be your nearest branch though.

Eve · 11/01/2009 20:11

many congratulations.... when I saw you at Parley wathcing Sam you did look like it was due any minute!

Hopefully see you at the gymkannas!

Butkin · 12/01/2009 09:56

Eve, I think it depends on what PC activities you do. The winter jumping sessions - where all ponies are hairy and unfit - are very relaxed and the people who do them are just happy to be doing something horsey.

Camp is a bit more competitive mum syndrome but by then your pony will probably be fitter and smarter and I'm sure you can get the boys making an effort to make him look clean. If they have any sense they'll let some of the PC girls "help" them out by doing a bit of grooming for them as well...
