Some of you may remember our awful rollercoaster of a summer last year with dd’s beautiful eventer going backwards and forwards to hospital. Surgery with months of rehab sadly ended with us having to say goodbye in September. Dd is still grieving but has thrown herself into training her young mare and a rather scatty ex-racer. The mare has been going brilliantly - she’s told us she’s not that keen on XC but she’s a good, careful showjumper and absolutely loves dressage, winning virtually every time she goes out. A few weeks ago she did two dressage tests but dd was worried about her being a little short on her left hind. It was so slight you couldn’t see it - she won both her tests with the highest scores of the day so obviously the judge couldn’t see it either but dd could feel something was off. We got the vet out who couldn’t see anything and didn’t want to nerve block because whatever it is is so subtle that he wasn’t sure if nerve blocking would help. She was a little tight over her SI so he injected that in case that was causing the problem and since then DD’s been doing lots of groundwork, raised poles and hacking up hills. But whatever it is hasn’t gone away - she had a dressage lesson with a very experienced coach this week who said she’s not quite right and that dd wasn’t imagining it. So she’s off to the same hospital in a few days time and I’ve got a horrible feeling history is repeating itself..

Would you not just give her a couple of weeks off on Dr Green and see how she goes?

Pleasedontdothat · 03/04/2026 14:59

She’s already had a couple of weeks off - it’s got slightly worse

Oh gutted for you. So hard when you can't even do an effective lameness work up because it's subtle, but there's something there. I hope you get some (fixable) answers on x-rays and ultrasounds this time around 🤞

tinyspiny · 04/04/2026 00:48

You don’t have much luck @Pleasedontdothat but I shall keep my fingers crossed for a good outcome .

OnarealhorseIride · 04/04/2026 18:22

I remember your posts from last summer so can see why you are feeling this way. I have my fingers crossed for you. Completely agree with you that the right thing to do at this point is not to wait but to go to the clinic.

Scaredycat5 · 04/04/2026 23:54

Hey, sorry to hear about this. Have you tried vitamin e supplements? I only say this as it has been recommended to me as my horse has been having similar issues and over winter they can become quite deficient

Pleasedontdothat · 05/04/2026 10:29

Thanks @Scaredycat5 I’m not sure how a vitamin deficiency would cause her to be not quite right on one side but will add it to the list of questions for the vet

Oh I'm so sorry to hear. What a kick in the teeth. Fingers crossed for something easy to remedy!

Springandaprayer · 09/04/2026 14:57

Are you making any progress? X

Pleasedontdothat · 09/04/2026 15:20

we’re off to vet hospital next week - earliest appointment we could get because of bank holidays and my work ..

Everything crossed for you 🤞🏻

I'm so with you on the past year being awful. It was for us too. The amount of bad luck we've been having with our showjumpers I am convinced someone put a curse on us.

Pleasedontdothat · 15/04/2026 14:15

About to leave horspital - she’s got a couple of very small OCD chips on her stifle - vet reluctant to go straight for surgery as she’s very borderline so she’s had PRP therapy which should reduce inflammation and we’ll see how she gets on - if there’s no improvement in about 3 months she’ll have the surgery then. Could be a lot worse!

Good luck OP 🤞🏻 hopefully it improves without surgery.

On a side note, would you mind PMing me (or posting here) the name of the hospital you use for diagnostics as they seem to be very on it. We have some unexplained stops at fences (on good strides) that I'd like to get to the bottom of and I think some pain somewhere must be the answer.

Hope she gets well soon @Pleasedontdothat .
