DD is an intermediate rider and horse mad. She would love to try a pony camp in the summer. We are in Herts but happy to travel. Can anyone recommend camps that are really well run, fun and engaging? Is there anything else I should know about seeing dd to a pony camp holiday? She'd be going by herself as her friends are not horse mad like her.

I've had DCs go to Wellington in Berkshire and also to Cornish Riding Holidays (Wheal Buller). Very different, but they enjoyed both.

Thank you, how are they different could you share a little more what sorts of activities, what the accommodation is like and if it's easy to make friends?

Wellington was very structured / BHS but also fun. Lots of horsey children from London and home counties. Its a busy training centre. Well schooled ponies and good instruction. DCs slept in log cabins. They enjoyed it.

Cornish Riding holidays was much less formal with a wide range of ponies and good hacking. DCs got the train from Paddington and were picked up the other end. They rode bareback in a lake, rode on the beach, did some XC. One (who was small and competent, with own pony at home) opted to ride a young new to the riding centre pony and really enjoyed that, even though it meant doing less advanced work. Another rode an experienced ex SJ pony and was happily jumping etc.

dd would LOVE the activities at Cornish Riding, whats' the accommodation like there? Is this the correct website https://www.cornishridingholidays.co.uk

Thats the one. Though it looks pretty out of date. IIRC they stayed in a house rather than log cabins. There was overall a much ore casual atmosphere at the Cornwall one.

Wheal Buller has been closed for years, sadly. Dd went there once but actually preferred Wellington - she went there every year from 10-15 (sometimes twice a year!) She preferred the more structured approach at Wellington and she learned so much - sometimes she went on her own, sometimes she coordinated dates with girls she’d met there the year before - she always thoroughly enjoyed herself though!

The website does look a bit dated, I had been wondering. Good to know. I kano she'd love to ride on a beach.
@Pleasedontdothat Wellington sounds great too especially if it helps her learn.

Don’t know when she turns 14 but I can highly recommend Free Rein in Wales. It involves riding across beautiful countryside with all you need in saddle bags, moving from place to place. She would stay in inns and b&bs.
Obviously totally different to a centre with fancy facilities but if she normally rides at a school it would be a nice contrast. She would learn lots and be exhausted at the end of each day.
