Horse resistant to wormer - help

I have a horse who has always had a high worm count since i got him, did used to come down slightly each wormimg cycle then go back up (always about 600). But lately its getting higher and not coming down at all. The wormer company said likely to be resistant and nothing much can be done. Does anybody have experience of this? I'm so worried about colic. Currently, his condition actually seems ok.

I have had exactly this problem. When I first got my horse I had him worm counted - the result was 700+
I spoke to the vet who recommended Panacur 5 day - 3 weeks after worming did another worm count, still exactly the same result. The vet said he'd be resistant to the active ingredient in Panacur, then recommended Equest Pramox - this did the trick. However, it took a couple of years to get a consistently lower worm count. Since then I have always worm counted every 3 months and only use a wormer recommended by the vet based on time of year etc etc
I think you need to speak to a vet who is well up on worming. I am surprised the wormer company said there's nothing can be done without directing you to speak to a vet. It might be true, though I would not just leave it at their word - things are progressing with worming all the time. it is a serious worry but I would think a decent equine vet should be able to help you. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted as I was also really worried about the same situation.
