Wwyd? Safety concerns at livery yard...

...think things like sharp protruding objects, trip hazards everywhere, lax handling etc. YO good in lots of ways and heart in the right place, but safety on the yard with lots of children about leaves a lot to be desired, with many near misses (to animals and people) making me cringe on a daily basis. I fear I'm being judged as a safety freak, but so many things I know would not be tolerated on other yards. I'm looking elsewhere for dpony but I'm not sure how best to navigate this - never been in this situation before. I know it will play on my conscience. Everything I've tried to raise sensitively seems to fall on deaf ears and others seem fine with it all! Has anyone else been in similar position? Would be good to hear other's perspectives. It all looked pretty good when I chose it, and the talk was talked, but things have only come to light since being properly in! Not sure who to raise it with either if I do, my vet? (As concern about DPony safety at times) or council? Or do I just accept standards vary everywhere, turn a blind eye and move on as others seem okay with it all?

Apols in advance if I don't give too many details as really don't want to out myself.

If its just a livery yard, then there is no governing body as such, so no one to contact about this. If its a riding school, then you can contact the council.
Either way, if they turn a blind eye to potential hazards, then I'm not sure I would want to be on that yard. You've raised it with them, and they have ignored your concerns. Things are not going to get better.
I say this as a yard owner myself.

Like what? Hard to say without specifics?

Is it a school or just private livery? If it's a school then it has to meet certain standards. Livery has no such requirements.

What kind of unsafe practices are we talking?

I guess we have some unsafe practices where I go but they aren't really unsafe per se, when considering the individuals being handled.

Things like bringing horses and ponies in with just lead ropes round their necks or completely loose and just following us, is a common one but honestly, they're mostly in their 20s and so kid broke that it really wouldn't occur to them to try anything and they wouldn't spook if you shot them.

We have a tiny wash bay and often squish ourselves between their butt and the wall to wash their tails. Again, they know we're there and we trust them not to kick back, even if startled.

The younger ones do get handled with more caution.

If its stuff like fire safety, nails sticking out of walls, feed not kept away from potential pests, unsafe fields etc then I'd be more inclined to address it.

Thanks both, really useful posts. It's just private livery. @Balloonhearts it's towards the more serious end of your examples but I'm not sure how to address it, other than to leave and say why (once I've found somewhere else!). I guess it's private so whatever YO says goes, just a bit shocked as not what I was expecting by the packaging at all. They're talking about holding a small show/gymkhana type thing in the summer and I think that's what worries me. Those who choose to stay with whatever risks known to them is kind of personal choice, but I don't like the thought of others coming in unawares. Wish I was a bit more forthright in nature as I know plenty would not be backwards in coming forwards, but to coin a phrase, I don't have the cards!
