I am selling my horse lorry and I’m not sure of the best place to advertise. If you have recently bought or sold where did you look (buyers) for or advertise (sellers) ? If relevant, I am in the West Midlands. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

Hi I’m in the midlands . Sold mine via Facebook marketplace. Added it to some local horsey Facebook pages and it went to someone relatively local.

I bought via Facebook - I put a wanted post on a couple of the 7.5 horse boxes for sale groups and the woman I bought it off got in touch. She was literally round the corner and we know lots of people in common - she hadn’t advertised it yet but was thinking about selling and my post gave her the push she needed. From a buyer’s point of view make sure the ad includes price, rough location and PAYLOAD (very important). I didn’t care that it had a luxury bathroom and sleeping for six if you could only legally carry a Shetland…

I sold mine on Facebook. Buyers need to know age, mileage and PAYLOAD. If I had a pound for every seller telling me they don’t actually know but it fits their 3 in and they’ve never been stopped… 🙄 A 3 horse lorry is worthless to some if it has a payload of 1.2t, and not a problem to the one horse buyer, so there is no need to be coy. My gigantic 7.5t had a payload of 1.7t, which was not enough for me when my kids moved from ponies to horses, but the family who bought it wanted large living space and only one pony in it. Be honest and upfront about state of chassis and body.

I sold my recently via Facebook marketplace. I also found a FB page for my specific lorry size, I think it was called 4-7 tonne horseboxes for sale (mine was 6.5t) which I received some interest from I also advertised on Horsequest which was a total waste of money, not one call.

Now is a good time to sell, make sure your advert stands out. As others have said, include as much relevant information as you can (payload, MOT, mileage and any extras or recent work you have done) and some good pictures.

Facebook, but be prepared for a lot of “would you knock £5k off in exchange for a jack Russel puppy” “would you deliver to Orkney” “can my mechanic who lives in Portugal and is next planing to be in England in 2032 come and have a look first”

Via horsey groups on Facebook.

Several timewasters but got what I asked for quite quickly.

I’ve not used them but Central England Horseboxes in Kidderminster have a good reputation I believe, if you can’t face the hassle. I don’t know the commission either but it’s an alternative way of doing it.
