mucking out boots

Please, please can you help me find yard boots, that are suitable footwear for helping out at the stables. DD is 12, no taller than 150cm, shoes size 4. Not sure if wellies are appropriate or the boots linked to below? They need to be super comfortable for working in for up to 4 hours and ideally warm too. Currently she has tall riding boots but they will not be suitable for mucking out as not comfy enough.

Yeh they will be fine but she shouldn't ride in them. Be prepared for them not to last long though if worn regularly for mucking out/traipsing through muddy fields etc

Personally I find brogini incredibly poorly made, Dublin are worth a look at, not as pricey as some of the other brands but arguably better quality than brogini

CherryogDog · 16/12/2024 15:15

I'd get her a decent pair of wellies, mucking out in leather boots will just ruin them.

BobaCob · 16/12/2024 16:08

I second the wellies, with nice long riding socks. My dc rode for years and I would buy the best riding boots I could afford and a pair of Dunlop wellies. The other option for on the yard is short boots with steel toe caps if mucking out around horses.

Floralnomad · 16/12/2024 16:35

I’d go for decent wellies or a short yard boot like muck boots or woof wear

TartanTess · 16/12/2024 18:08

Thank you! That's very helpful. I nearly would have spent £££ on impractical leather boots. I'll look for wellies and cosy long riding socks.

Definitely wellies

Definitely wellies

Wellies for mucking out etc. I always used to change into riding boots at the mounting block but I did keep my horse at home.
I like rockfish wellies

WeregoingtoIbiza · 16/12/2024 19:07

I wear muck boots all year round though I don't drive or ride in them.

TartanTess · 16/12/2024 19:19

Are muck boots ok even though they don't have a small heel? Hope they're not slippery. Are Hunters any good?

Hunters are not worth the price anymore .

Hunters are awful now
Best wellies for adults are Aigle Parcours but for kids most will do although avoid Hunters and Joules. The problem is that if they aren't neoprene lined then they will get very cold.
The stable boots are fine and the grooms at our livery yard all use them on the acknowledgement that they need replacing after every winter. They are much warmer and comfortable than bog standard wellies

Thank you, do you mean the leather Brogan type of boots are ok? For a season?

Yes imo. They will get wrecked if wearing all day every day but for once a week, which is what I'm presuming you mean, then you may even get 2 winters out of them

I'm in my second pair of muck boots, my first ones did last quite a few years.
They are warm in winter though can be slippy on the wet / icy cobbles on our farm
(not sure many boots wouldn't slip on them)
