Anyone interested in following the fantastic athletes both human and equine who are competing this week?
I believe the eventing dressage is kicking off today.

I've watched it a few times
It's really hard to see - I think she may have jumped into the flag - it certainly doesn't look like she was outside it from the angle on the tv

Yes.

Michael Jung leading

Lc and TmcE both clear, LC a time penalty

RC yet to go

German rider fell off so they are out of the team event

I do think it’s harsh to not have the option of a discard. Some of the Olympic sports have this, I think in athletes for example. Then again I guess not everyone has a fit and ready 4th combination and reserve, so it would favour the big hitters of the equestrian world.

Very disappointed in nicolas touzaint dropping his reins as soon as he finishes. His horse was knackered and needed support. Second time I have seen him do this.

GOLD team medal 🎉 🎉
Despite the dubious 15 faults awarded against Ros by a French fence judge (who also appears to have obscured the camera on the fence just as a member of the team in first place, ahead of his national team came into view).

Now for the final rounds of the individual medals…

Oh and there obviously is some kind of option for the spare rider to compete as an Australian rider showjumped, despite not having completed the first two phases.

Gutted for Ros, still dispute that flag! Also gutted for Tom to be dropped out of medal position, he deserved an individual medal.
No matter how well GB equestrians do they still never get the TV coverage they deserve

CobbyMouthed · 29/07/2024 15:48

Bronze for Laura, let’s see if it makes the BBC round up tonight.

This was a fantastic performance all round! So delighted for them.

squashyhat · 29/07/2024 16:14

Is there a showjumping competition to come? I was reminiscing with DH last night about the likes of David Broome and Harvey Smith! Wouldn't have a clue who today's stars are.

ElleneAsanto · 29/07/2024 23:13

Team golds and a bronze individual for Laura Collett, superb performance.

BBC have very little control choice over what they can show, they did some highlights and an interview though.

I watched on Discovery+, they have an Olympics deal for £3.99 a month for all Olympic coverage. My only complaint is the commentators in the last, incredibly tense, final rounds who would not shut up, and kept wittering when you just want to concentrate on the rider!

How is the individual declared? I get they don’t make the horses do the whole lot again, and they don’t seem to declare it straight from the team event…

only managed to catch the highlights and can’t quite work it out.

Thunderpunt · 30/07/2024 07:24

Top 25 individual standings after the 3 main events get to jump again (show jumps) to determine individual medals

Nevergiveuponyourdreams · 30/07/2024 07:40

Well done Team GB! What a result. Fantastic bronze for Laura too though she must be a bit gutted that she got that last fence down in the first round of show jumping…🥇🥉
I agree that the commentators just need to be quiet at certain points, if not during a lot of the round as it’s very distracting and unnecessary.

HornungTheHelpful · 30/07/2024 09:24

Anyone watching the GP today? I'm excited to have it on while I'm working. Think Carl Hester is going this PM

CobbyMouthed · 30/07/2024 10:39

The bbc coverage of the showjumping was good, not too much chatter. The first showjumping round is max 16 fences max 1.2 meters. Then the round to determine the individual medals is max 12 fences max 1.3 metres. A proper challenge for the horses who have completed all phases.

Becky Moody and Jagerbomb (love the name), last minute replacement for CDJ, topped their group to qualify for the individual final - which will be the Freestyle (dressage to music) on Sunday. A lovely calm correct test.

Carl Hester very likely to go through too.

Last GB team member Charlotte Fry rides first in her group at 10am tomorrow.

GB team currently in silver medal position - but Germany’s top two riders still to come, so could all change tomorrow.

HornungTheHelpful · 31/07/2024 07:00

It’s exciting stuff! Looking forward to today’s group. There were some lovely tests yesterday.
