Want to loan our outgrown Welsh section A pony out but could do with some advice as to how to do it. Where to advertise and how to set up a contract that sets out responsibilities for both parties. Just a free loan as want him to be used. Thanks

You will be swamped with enquiries for a good child’s pony on loan. Personally I’d look to go through the local pony club as I’d worry about full loaning a pony to a novice child with novice parents that very well meaning people may unintentionally neglect a pony. A PC might know an experienced family looking for a small pony for a youngest or similar.

BHS has a good, free agreement.

Make sure you really think about everything beyond the basics, my friend loaned out an elderly but very safe games pony and the first family he went to were absolute twats, not unkind to the pony but a nightmare to deal with, continuously trying to “negotiate” what they were liable for, and in the end she got fed up and loaned the pony elsewhere but was VERY fussy about the people.

If you’re willing to let them move yards realy really vet the people! If you wanted to keep more control maybe a couple of part loaners would be a better fit

I went through my dds riding instructor who recommended a lovely family at the right stage for our outgrown pony.
There is a sample loan agreement on the BHS website. Download it, read it through and amend it accordingly. I put a weight restriction in for any riders for example.

Go through the Pony Club or your trainer. Don't advertise to randoms.

Where are you OP? I know a very dedicated little girl (with an experienced parent and even wider experience on a yard where everyone mucks in and helps each other) looking for a 1/1.5 type pony on loan

Advertise him on your local pony club Facebook pages.
See videos of the kids riding before you let them come and view so that you can try to make the best use of everyone's time.

Don't be afraid to say no if you don't think it's a good match.

Ask questions such as amount of riding they would do, turnout etc.

Use BHS template but amend as necessary. Put in things that are important to you such as only the nominated child to ride, only suitably qualified farriers, get saddle checked every how often etc.

Visit where the pony will be kept.

Visit the pony every month or so once on loan to make sure all is good.
