I was heartened to see what she had to say on the bbc 6 o clock news tonight. She has also stated on her Facebook page that “silence is not golden” and Carl Hester was not aware of her methods.
Lets hope she is right about Carl Hester or our Olympic Dressage hopes truly are built on Sandy foundations.

I mean... how likely is it that Carl Hester being at the same yard as Dujardin for many years has never seen her methods? 😏 A lot more likely that he uses the exact same methods...

I missed this, what did PM say?

Here’s a Facebook post from yesterday.

Sadly I have to agree .
I get there's an awful lot of riders out there hoping they haven't been filmed

Hmm, I had some lessons at her yard a few years back - not taught by her but a couple of different coaches.

One horse I rode had its head tied in tight and I was given a bit of birch/branch literally off a tree to hit the horse with because apparently I was ineffective with the schooling whip (basically giving it a tap on the behind with my hand still on the rein because I didn't want to whack it). I was told to put both reins in one hand and use my free hand forcefully (which I didn't).

On another occasion I was chased with a schooling whip to get the horse going forwards to which I asked the instructor to please stop doing that because it was making me nervous as the horse was shooting off (understandably). I very much got the impression they thought I was useless, which I'm not, I was just lacking confidence at the time.

I rode a few other sour horses there and was shouted and balled at by another instructor to kick and whack a horse to get it over the fences (it was so backwards and felt lame). A couple of staff I spoke to said this was common place.

So yeah I'm eye rolling at all this holier than thou bollocks and perhaps she needs to start looking closer to home.

@Thunder8090 by her you mean Pammy Hutton?

Yes

Normalwahatisnormal · 26/07/2024 11:37

Well I was seriously under impressed by her speaking the other night on the news I must say. Just felt they were all closing in to protect each other

RedPony1 · 26/07/2024 11:54

Yeh Pammy Hutton doesn't have the best rep either....

I once took a friends horse to a Monty Roberts demo to be used for loading issues. (loaded in my big lorry but wouldn't their trailer)
They spent 4 hours on that horse before the demo loading it, not always nicely. Then they lied in the demo that they hadn't touched the horse before 🙄
Then went on to have a bucking horse in, put a "buck stop" strap on it and us in the front row got splattered with blood!!!
It happens everywhere, unfortunately.

Yep and she's shared a post on FB basically saying enough is enough and move on, let's all just enjoy the Olympics now etc!

Er no, fuck off.

CobbyMouthed · 26/07/2024 16:51

To be fair to Monty Roberts he has done a lot of good for horses across the globe. The demo might be all smoke and mirrors but anyone who reads his books can take parts to help them be kind to their animals.

I volunteered behind the scenes several times at Monty Roberts' demos and never saw what you described so I can honestly say that was not what usually happened.

@RedPony1 I would be interested to hear what the unkind method used was? As I understand it he recommends using a pressure head collar to ask the horse to step forward. Then as soon as the horse yields and takes a step you reward with release of pressure. You calmly and quietly repeat this until the horse follows you up happily.

Two people each side of the ramp with schooling whips, started as a tap to legs as the horse moved side to side but as the horse got more annoyed it turned to more than a tap, lets say.

Good to hear! But our experience was awful

Attached is a pic of the same buck stop device used. The poor horses gum was in a right state, probably traumatised! I know i was.
