Or is it fake news?

It’s so disappointing if true…

I am a huge fan and can’t quite believe what I am hearing.

@WineWhineWine
I don't define dressage, and I have no idea what question you are asking of me.
If you are telling me that a horse has to be trained in dressage for a person to ride it, I'd say that's not correct. My family had a horse when I was a child, from a foal, that the local farmer broke in for us, and we went to Ireland many times on holiday when I was a child to farms there to ride their horses.
I really don't know a single thing about dressage, but I worry when you see her whipping the horse that that is how they are all doing it.

Im not going to bother getting into a debate with her. It’s quite clear to you and me where the line is between horsemanship and plain cruelty, and she’s crossed it by far

oakleaffy · 24/07/2024 21:27

I'm no dressage rider, but it looks like the horse is afraid to use his hind legs- as if he hasn't a clue as to what he should be doing with them.

He hops about with both hindlegs going forwards at the same time, he clearly has no confidence in his rider, probably confused, and is annoyed at the stinging that comes seemingly out of nowhere - he will be anticipating further pain.

There is no trust, no one to show him what is expected of him.

Would someone whip a child who couldn't do a gym exercise ? Of course not.

toolate2 · 24/07/2024 21:43

Animal cruelty, I hope she gets a prison sentence for this .

WineWhineWine · 24/07/2024 21:50

@Fiddlerdragon in what way have I crossed it?

Gekeos · 24/07/2024 21:51

The video is on you tube I have watched it.

Every equestrian posting about “sour grapes”, timing, spectators not speaking out, saying they’ve seen worse, or “but what about poor Charlotte’s mental health / young family / whatever” should be ashamed of themselves.

She deserves everything she’s getting - she’s accepted all the positive sides of fame and fortune that horses have brought her. She is responsible for her behaviour and nobody else. Let’s not deflect from that. If there’s any hope for horse sports - even at the lowest and least competitive levels - we need to acknowledge and stamp out this kind of abuse, not minimise it.

100 million per cent. I don’t give a shit about her - she’s a disgraceful animal abuser. I hope she’s feeling even a fraction of the fear she put that poor horse through now. She should be, because her entire career and reputation is now lost forever, and quite rightly. She makes me sick.

bluewanda · 24/07/2024 22:16

Wow - I just watched the video (couldn’t bring myself to do so before) and I feel sick to my stomach. I’m so angry. That woman - Charlotte whatever her fucking name is - is an absolute sadistic bitch. I am so fucking glad she’s been exposed and her career destroyed. What a piece of shit. I hope the cunt who is laughing in the film is named too.

bluewanda · 24/07/2024 22:17

How the hell can someone be so cruel - then parade around saying how much they love horses. It’s sickening, absolutely sickening.

AndForAFortnightThereWeWereForever · 24/07/2024 22:18

100% agree with all your points @bluewanda 👏

bluewanda · 24/07/2024 22:20

I really hope that horse (annd any others) are taken away from her before they are abused any further.

bluewanda · 24/07/2024 22:21

And to the person who filmed this and released it: 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

bluewanda · 24/07/2024 22:27

“Deeply ashamed” - fuck off. We all see you for what you truly are.

It made me feel a physical stomach reaction, too.

The evil cackler ''heheheh!!! heheheh!!'' enjoying every lash.

Sadists.

I just don’t understand how people can be so cruel.

Money. Fame. Medals. Royal recognition.

StSwithinsDay · 24/07/2024 22:39

Would be good if the Princess Royal condemned this too.

None of that would make me want to continually whip, frighten and hurt that poor horse.

millie101 · 24/07/2024 22:50

Fat chance. Others have said the top tier have been told to not comment. It’s deplorable that not one of them have the decency to speak out. They clearly care more about their sponsors, their medals and their glory to condemn any wrongdoing. Sets the worst example to junior riders. I’m really disgusted at the silence today.

StSwithinsDay · 24/07/2024 22:55

@millie101
Totally agree. This is where Princess Anne and dare I say it Zara Tindall should show leadership. Not happening obviously.

StSwithinsDay · 24/07/2024 23:18

UK Sport have suspended her lottery funding.
She is toast now.

Still ringing silence from Carl Hester

I wonder if they’re not speaking out because they’re doing it too.

StSwithinsDay · 24/07/2024 23:24

Yes. They are all a disgrace. If I was Becky Moody I would be thinking long and hard if I wanted any hand, act or part in this brutal sport.
Editing to say that of course she may be equally doing similar. As Carl Hester and everyone else associated with dressage.

StripedPiggy · 24/07/2024 23:30

I have been reading much of the media coverage of this case tonight. The video is utterly damning, and the commentators are not holding back. Frankly, I am now quite concerned for her welfare.

Charlotte Dujardin’s entire life has imploded over the last 24 hours. Her career is certainly over. She is facing a long ban from competition because the FEI will make an example of her to save their sport. Her reputation is in tatters. If further evidence of abuse emerges, she may be stripped of her medals, titles & records. She has lost her sponsors. She will lose her top rides. Her training business will collapse. She faces financial ruin. Inevitably, many people who she thought of as friends will disown her. She may be abused or even assaulted in the street. She may be prosecuted for animal cruelty by the RSPCA and incur a criminal record. I’m not for a moment suggesting that she doesn’t deserve all of that, but it’s a lot for anyone to deal with, whatever they have done.

I very much hope she has some strong, caring people around her in the coming days because she must be in a very, very dark place.
