What are riding tights?

Hi everyone, I only ride occasionally and my trusty old jods are usually enough but I've just booked a riding holiday (can't wait 😊) so I'm looking to buy more riding clothes.

I've never heard of riding tights before, are they thick enough to contain my sturdy thighs???

Also some websites seem to call jodhpur boots paddock boots, are these suitable for riding?

Thank you

I prefer jodhpurs. I tried a few pairs and the material was quite thin, more like gym leggings, so I didn't find them that flattering.

I love riding tights but you get what you pay for quality wise. I wouldn't go back to jodhs now and much more comfortable for long days in the saddle.

They are like gym leggings. Like gym leggings some are good quality some are not. I prefer them especially in warm weather

Riding tights are fab, far more comfortable than jodhpurs. They are like gym leggings or running or cycling tights. You can get them with silicone grips around the seat and thighs. They tend to have a phone pocket too.

Thanks everyone for your replies, if you have any recommendations I'd be grateful ❤️

My favourite brand is Scorching North, gorgeous bright colours & fab quality

My daughter has a few pairs of aubrion. They wash really well

Cobblersorchard · 21/07/2024 10:26

Paddock boots are jodhpur boots with a zip.
You can ride in them.

Serencwtch · 21/07/2024 11:00

Tights/leggings are so much better than traditional jodhpurs/breeches
The thickness/weight & quality vary alot. Some have silicone grips on the knee or full seat. It's personal preference as to what's best. Personally I like big secure phone pockets & shaping/compression fabrics

I like Blackfort equestrian, eqcouture & flexars.

Ariat & shires are great leggings but phone pockets are too small.

Jodhpur boots & paddock boots have changed a lot too. I prefer short boots & also boots that I can walk/do yard work in as can't be bothered to change my boots to ride. I have Ariat Telluride which are more outdoor hiking trainer style but with a decent heal to ride in. Shires moretta have a cheaper version which looks to be similar quality.

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/07/2024 12:24

They're like gym leggings. Much comfier. Ariat, Lemieux, Aztec diamond at the
High end of the scale but my kids have also picked up cheaper ones.

Thank you all, that's my Sunday afternoon sorted, shopping for riding clothes 😀

My DD has some LeMieux ones, very good quality. They are like thick gym leggings with a phone pocket and "grippy bits" on the inner thigh area! You might be lucky with a summer sale bargain!

Wrapunzel · 21/07/2024 21:08

I have ditched jodhs for ariat tights, the eos ones are so light and comfy and fit nicely under my long boots (I have disproportionately fat calves Blush)

Balloonhearts · 23/07/2024 07:47

Bit like gym leggings but thicker and with silicone grips on the bum and inside of knees. Much comfier than jods. Come fleece lined and water repellant in winter ones too.

SummerGardenFlowers · 27/07/2024 19:43

I ditched proper jodhpurs YEARS ago in favour of gym leggings, I've never felt the need to go to riding tights and I don't like the silicone grip type ones anyway as I find them squeaky! I think I've got about 10 pairs of Fabletics leggings in a range of colours with side pockets for phone/ lip balm etc. Will never go back to jodhpurs.

Hi, do you which fabletics leggings you have? And which is the toughest if you have a few?

Thank you!

Just be careful of the seam. I thought riding in gym leggings was a great idea until I ended up with chafing in an intimate area 😂 .
They were fine for short hacks etc but don't try endurance training.
I always check where the seams are now! Some equestrian branded ones are exactly the same as gym leggings so it's worth checking
