Has anyone tried these? Thinking of getting some for my obstinate DD who won't listen to me about conflicting aids and dropping one hand but not sure!

If a pair of gloves made a child listen they'd all be wearing them.

Best thing to do is to get someone else to teach your child, and make sure that you don't watch.

Joking aside, I'm pretty much anti-gadget with horses and truly believe that less is more. I don't think that tying her hands together will teach anything other than how to ride with her hands tied together.

Seems very expensive for what it is (and gloves that may well end up being lost).

FWIW, my instructor tackles this issue by putting a whip in both hands and carry it across the horse in front of me so when my hands are uneven, you can see it by the whip dropping in that side. Not sure that makes sense. It’s difficult to explain!

  • your aim is keep the whip straight/even
Deliaskis · 10/07/2024 11:30

We do the whip trick as well as an exercise, and also a stretchy bandage under pony's tummy and then up and into each hand, with DD aiming to keep the same tension on each hand.

RedPony1 · 10/07/2024 11:56

Whip trick is far easier and free!

£55 is insane. if you prefer the softer idea, then buy some velcro and make them yourself?

Wrapunzel · 10/07/2024 13:33

Thanks all! Will give the whip trick a go in the first instance. She does have lessons with pony club (rallies) and the dressage ones on top but just want to nip bad habits in the bud!

just need to make sure the habit doesn't go the other way and she becomes rigid - i think that's worse than dropping a hand!

I use them. They are brilliant! I’m a 4* event rider and have a horse who is very difficult in the dressage. She loves it when I wear them! These have been a god send. Stops you trying to correct everything with your hands which actually makes the problem worse and helps you notice your own crookedness and lack of use of legs and seat aids etc. highly recommend. Would be surprised though if competition legal, but very helpful for training and improving a supple secure contact.

Thanks for the feedback @CoolNavyTraybake
I have a birthday soon 👀 Grin

Make your own , doesn’t look that difficult . Back in the 1980s , Abbot Davis balancing reins were the thing and my dad made one for me to try on one of my mares after our instructor recommended it .

Gremlinsateit · 20/01/2025 01:15

I know someone who uses them and likes them. Do they have a quick release for falls?

3smallpups · 29/01/2025 00:04

@CoolNavyTraybake
Did the postage cost a fortune?
In early bought some but wimped out once realised they came from Australia, thought I would have to pay import tax etc
