Bra recommendations for "well endowed" riders?

Hello all. I'd be very grateful for advice. I'm in my mid 40s and just started having riding lessons. So far so good but I'm very much of the bustier persuasion (H cup) and my usual sports bras which are fine for aerobics and running are just not cutting it when it comes to riding. I was doing a lot of sitting the trot in yesterday's lesson and ... goodness!

Is anyone able to recommend a great riding bra please?

Thanks so much

My sister has bras from Shock Absorber for running in so may be worth a look .

Butterflyfern · 23/06/2024 16:00

Yep, shock absorber bra at the highest exercise intensity here. I'm a 30f and they're the best I've found.

Alternatively, get a back protector 😂 I wear one to jump and can get away with a normal bra when I do as the protector holds everything in place

If you're new to lessons you shouldn't be doing sitting trot!

You'll find as your riding improves you won't bounce so much (any part of you 😂) and it will get much more comfortable.

Meanwhile, shock absorber level 4 is the solution.

This. And also a body protector.

My recommendation is a sports bra over the top of a normal supportive bra. Holds the boobs very firmly.

BC2603 · 23/06/2024 17:22

M&S - the high impact one that zips at the front. I ride competitively and they are very comfortable

QuestionableMouse · 23/06/2024 17:23

I used to use Shock Absorber or the Enell bra (which is very firm!)

Another vote for body protector. Better than scaffolding.

Why shouldn't she learn sitting trot as a beginner? I started with no stirrups! Best way to learn the movement is to feel it. First 3 or 4 lessons were sitting trot, then started naturally rising once I could identify the rhythm. I thought that was how everyone learnt?

I learned in the same way! On a 17.2 WB to boot! Had to learn quickly or else 😂

I'm a 32hh and I wear two of the shock absorber sports bras for running and cycling.

Same! 17hh showjumper with massive bouncy trot. You anchored your boobs down when riding him or got slapped in the face with them. I swear his trot could launch a rocket!

Lovely to ride though, once you got used to him. Get him engaged with a bit of impulsion and he could feel like flying. Very powerful horse but so considerate of his rider. Would drop down without being asked if you wobbled or lost your balance. He was such a gent.

Then when he retired, I had to spend weeks relearning rising trot because I had learned on him from day one and was so used to his big gaits that I struggled with the smoother horses.

Ahh thank you all! Sounds like the level 4 shock absorber is the way forward.

I really like the back protector idea as well for some scaffolding. Thank you.

Yesterday was lesson number 9. I'd only done a little bit of sitting trot before then, like a few strides before canter which seemed ok from a boob perspective but yesterday teacher had me doing longer sections of it and it all felt a bit much! The horse I ride is an absolute UNIT but she's surprisingly light and bouncy on her (enormous, dinner plate like) feet for a big girl which was wonderful but, as I say, a bit overwhelming in the chest department at the moment.

I did sit a giant (to me) spook when a tree she's gone past about a hundred times looked at her funny so was feeling a real sense of progress 😊

Thank you again for the great advice

Oh yeah, you've had your first sighting of the rare horse eating leaf! Very scary stuff, they can swallow a horse whole apparently. At least that is what my usual horse thinks.
