Full/ part livery

Hi
Sounds ridiculous but I have only ever been on diy livery or had rented paddocks.
May I ask with a 7 day full livery what does that mean , do I just go up
And do what I usually would such as the grooming / care walking out or riding etc and not poo pick the paddock or feed and fill hay nets ? And with a 5 day would I do all the rest on the two days that would I presume be diy ?
Also would I be able to add in extra feed supplements for them to add in feed ?
Do you go and ride daily on full livery ?
I am sounding dumb I know but I genuinely have never used full so it's all a lot new to me.
Thank you

Yes, essentially everything you've assumed is correct, although there is no obligation you ride 7 days per week. On the days you don't ride, most full livery would exercise for you in line with your wishes (eg walker/lunge). The specifics of what each yard offer on full varies, so just double check.

full livery is usually feeding, turning out, mucking out, hay, water, bringing in, plus rug changes as and when needed. this is dependent on the yards usual routine. so you would just be going up to ride/see your horse. can you not ask yard owner details of full livery, as not all yards are the same.

Most full livery now is everything except exercising/grooming - however a lot of yards will have this as an optional extra. Mine are now on full livery as was the only option for when I had to move last year due to the lovely yard I was on closing.

I can bring my own feeds and supplements - but one of them is also on their chaff. That’s not an issue. Bedding, hay and haylage all included. Rug changes AM and PM. I basically don’t have to go down there unless I want to give them a fuss or ride. I never thought I’d get on will full livery however - I’ve had a horrible end to last year and have struggled with tiredness falling pregnant in December so it’s been a blessing!

Full where I am is everything but riding, I won’t need to go up if I’m not riding.

It literally depends on both the area and yard so the best thing you can do is start asking yards what their specific full livery covers so that you can make an educated comparison.

Also worth checking opening hours (mine closes at 8pm) and whether the facilities like the school are available to use all day or rented out / booked out for other users so you have a narrower window of opportunity.

If you're looking for people to hack with, also worth asking what kind of liveries it attracts as some yard setups seem to attract a lot of flexi workers, self employed etc who can ride during the day while others are full of 9-5ers who are only there early and late during the week. Also some yards are full of kids while others are unofficially adults-only.

I think all yards vary.

Mine includes turn out, bringing in, rug changes, hay/haylage, feeding, mucking out and poo picking. Hard feed is theoretically included but not if your horse is on a special diet. In short you only need to go up to groom and ride.
Bedding is not included but used to be.
Trailer storage is extra.

Agree you need to check presice details with your yard but it should mean all day to day care e.g. mucking out, haynets, turnout and bring in is covered. Most yards will have some things which are not included and/or have to be paid for as 'extras'.

At my yard grooming, exercise and tack cleaning are not included in full livery, nor are wormers or any other medication or bringing in and holding for the vet/dentist/farrier (although they don't charge extra for the farrier if they're in anyway). Bedding is included (50p per week extra for shavings as opposed to straw) but if you want anything 'special' e.g. dust free or aubiose you have to buy and store it yourself. Feed ditto, it's included so long as it's one of the normal mixes or feeds used, supplements and anything more specialist you buy yourself. I think that's reasonably standard. Clipping and mane/tail pulling is extra too. We're generally expected as liveries to keep the yard tidy so sweep or wash down after yourself, pick up any poos in the arena etc (although this is only loosely enforced!) so it's not quite turn up and ride, but nearly so.

In general I would say with a lot of full liveries pretty much everything is covered for you until you want your horse to have something different or special to the normal yard routine. For instance at my yard bring in and turnout is covered but they all go out and come in at the same time. If you want your horse brought in at a different time e.g. to ride during the day you do that yourself or you pay extra for a staff member to do an extra field run. My horse is a greedy guts and was gobbling all his hay really fast when fed out of their normal feeders/racks, I wanted him to have a trickle net which yard manager is fine with but the deal is I fill them myself, the staff don't have time to cater to individual requests like that. It can get a bit annoying when you're already paying a lot for full livery to have a load of extras tacked on and/or still end up doing quite a lot of chores yourself but obviously with staff costs etc rising the yard manager has to keep things in check. But if your horse has a lot of special needs or you like things done in a particular way you need to be prepared to either compromise to fit the majority, pay extra or still do some work yourself!

Full livery varies from yard to yard . Our pony is on full , she’s retired so no exercise requirement but she gets turned out / rugs as required / all food / bedding and grooming , we provide medication and supplements .

Thank you so much for all your replies I really appreciate it , it feels weird to go full livery and not do any chores myself!
I've got lots of perspective now and can ask the right questions when I look round now so thank you again :)

Most places are happy for you to do what you like but obviously they are not giving you a discount for you doing it . When I had my horses on Full before they died I was always doing stuff as I had always looked after them myself before I had my children .
