Water problems!

Hi everyone,

About three weeks ago, the supply of water dried up to my winter field. The pipes run through a neighbours land. We suspect it has been caused by trees being uprooted in the storm as every other trough is working but ours but she says she can't do anything to find the problem until the ground dries out and the problem is 'obvious'. Having just come in from giving my ponies water for the fourth time today I am feeling pretty pissed off. I can't wait months for her to start looking for the problem, is there anything I can do to force her hand? She isn't being inconvenienced as there are no animals on her field at the moment so she can kick the can down the road. Thank you!

Unfortunately I’m not sure there’s much you can do practically as she’s correct in saying she can’t start to fix the problem until the ground dries out. We have a broken land drain in one of our fields which means half the field is under water but we can’t get machinery down there to fix it without making it much worse until the water subsides. If you have legal advice as part of your home insurance or BHS membership it would be worth checking if she has any responsibility to provide you with a temporary solution, as constantly lugging water around is not fun.

How wet is your field - can you get in there with a towable bowser or is there anyone who can bring you an IBC full of water - local friendly farmer? I think she's probably right about not getting onto the fields with machinery - I usually have 3 IBCs but farmer who rents me the land is currently bringing down a load of filled water containers to tide me over until its dry enough to get in and out with telehandler again. What kind of water supply does your neighbour have - is it possible to run a very long length of hosepipe with a temporary tap arrangement from the nearest water supply (also done that in the past but you do need someone handy with plumbing).
