I have no idea what to do , but my little Welshie is lonely. I have had suggestions from a mini goat, a donkey, a cow or mini galloway cow . Anyone have any experience? SHe used to live with a horse which is my other option. Thanks

She needs to live with another horse - preferably one with similar needs with regard to grazing etc as her. Horses are herd animals and being alone is very stressful - goats, cows even donkeys (lots of horses are scared of them) aren’t ideal companions for an equine.

Definitely another horse or pony. Agree with previous poster.

Mine was very attached to a particular sheep but I already had both of them when they became inseparable. If you are going to buy something I think you’ll have to go for another pony

Could you foster? My friend has a Shetland on long term foster as a friend for her horse

Got to be another pony. Where are you? My friend has a healthy little Shetland looking for a good home who lives out is good with others and could fit the bill?

I'd take a look on some of the Facebook pages, lots of people looking for a full time loan for horses they can't ride any longer. Or you could speak to the Blue cross, they have lots of companion horses or ponies they are looking to rehome

Seems like a horse/ pony then. She is a mini pony so I was thinking of a mini horse. Will keep looking . I was told they liked goats and sheep so was leaning towards that.

Some goats can be very tricky. Ours were accomplished escape artists and would eat very unsuitable things. The horses seemed to rub along with them.

My dad, a very experienced horseman, always used to say never leave a horse or pony alone, put a hen in if you are desperate.
When he was a boy one of his ponies best friends was a hen.

Another horse or pony would be your best option.

Have a look at rescues for minis or moorland ponies there's so many about. Nice thing about them is you foster so should anything happen you are able to return your foster to their rescue knowing they have a good home and aren't stuck in the merry go round of always needing a companion.

Definitely another pony but I’d be very careful . We bought my now deceased thoroughbred a Shetland companion and she absolutely loved him but unfortunately he panned out to be a sickly creature who couldn’t go on grass ( lami ) and also couldn’t go out in very bad weather as he didn’t like the rain . We ended up buying her another horse to keep her company and the Shetland joined them when he felt up to it.

Thanks all. Fostering seems like it might be the go.
