Do you tip your farrier?

Just that really, I often feel like I should, but I don’t cos it’s a bit awkward. My horse is well behaved, but we don’t have great facilities - no cover etc, so can be a bit exposed. Just wondered what everyone else does!

No.

I offer tea/coffee and use of the loo and sink. I also pay promptly and don't mess them about.

My farrier always had a cuppa, and a biscuit if there were any going. As I had a young and tricky horse I used to get him a bottle at Christmas.

My trimmer never accepts a cuppa as she doesn't want to have to stop and find a loo later, she is appreciative of the use of our loo though.

Horse is in and ready, and there's indoor space.

I think years ago it was the norm. My dad always tipped our farrier.
But then he would tip in all sorts of situations, where it’s not done, nowadays.
I give a bottle of Scotch at Christmas time and it’s always appreciated.

It has never occurred to me but now you mention it, why not?

I pay £80 for my hair which takes a whole 30 mins and I tip my hairdresser so why not my farrier?

I guess it's routine essential work. I only tip the window cleaner and milkman at Christmas so similar maybe?

My horses are perfect though. My friends horse is hell and getting worse each time, he should be getting danger money never mind a tip!
