Great jumping instructor recommendations please

My teenager dreams of a career as a rider. As unrealistic (and expensive) as it may be, I want to help her give it her best shot. She's doing fairly well placing at various BSJA shows and is currently at a kids-focused jumping yard that has definitely improved her riding, but she wants to get to the "next level" and I don't think anyone at her yard wants to go beyond recreational riding/low level competing (at least her friends don't and the yard doesn't really have anyone competing at international or even high national level).

She wants to do a clinic or a camp (if that even exists) to be seen by a fresh pair of eyes and for a high-level instructor to really assess her/her pony. Not being from the horse world, I have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about and I can only guess that top instructors have enormous waiting lists and don't take on kids off the street. But how to get to even be seen by one?

Could anyone recommend a clinic that we could sign up for? We're in London but could travel of course (ideally not too far).

I'm also concerned that her current instructor is very well-connected in the BSJA world and would take offence at us trying to be seen by someone else. I'm not sure how to navigate this without burning bridges, as they are a very good (old-school) instructor. A fall-out would also mean we would have to move yards (jumping yards recommendations would also be welcome 😂).

Any advice on how to go about this and recommendations much appreciated.

I'm sorry but you need to move asap. This is insane. Avoid anyone she is friends with, you'd be far better at a generic non competition yard (with a decent surface and set of jumps) with good visiting instruction than this. And trust me, not everyone in the area will agree she's all that - she'll have a reputation! She's obvs batshit crazy!
I'd sort it as a matter of urgency then sort your own transport.
And yes to the PP who said send her as a working pupil on a GOOD yard when she's old enough, it's the best way for her to learn. Tell her to make sure she isn't being exploited though and get her good insurance (British grooms association is fab). Plus point is she can get out of the clutches of madwoman!

My friend's kids are here greenacres-showjumpers.com/ and she speaks very highly of the yard

Thank you all for the brilliant recommendations! Will explore them asap.

Regarding the level she's jumping, they are jumping up to 1.20 at home but still not out of Discovery for shows. Only started with BSJA mid last season and qualified for Blue Chip, but it so happened that the yard only went to a few Junior shows for various reasons and of course we are not allowed to go to shows without the yard.

I realise this is not the level of top junior riders and her pony will probably not be able to handle a course of 1.30 to be honest, but is fabulous at the level they are at. I love the pony she has and would want to keep it even if she get another one. It honestly breaks my heart when she's not allowed to be turned out 😞

Oh my, it sounds like a bad dream. What a control freak.

Agree that your daughter will make friends elsewhere, particularly if she joins pony club. My eldest is younger but she refuses to ever miss a rally, the camaraderie and bond between the kids in the various age groups is wonderful.

Just find a normal , nice livery yard with good turnout , get yourself a box and get involved with the PC etc . Your daughter will learn so much more organising her own pony it will be massively beneficial to her moving forward .

Thank you. If anyone has seen "Dance Mums" we're in the equestrian equivalent bonkers environment with a very similar instructor to Abby Lee. 😅

I will definitely sign her back up with the PC. Problem was that our local PC (Trent Park) don't go to any PC rallies (at least they never did while we were there). The other local branch (Gillian's) doesn't even do ridden Pony Club and only does stable management from what I understand. So we have to sign up with another branch.

It looks like the South Hertfordshire and West Middlesex branch would be close enough if you are near Trent Park .

Both my kids ride eventing. Each has two different coaches. Dressage and flatwork and a jumpimg coach. Also other coaches to fix things. I would move yard as she is going to get stuck there. A few places run clinics and you want to get seen by someone good who can assess and direct. Talland is apparently old school but good for older riders who want to progress professionally.

How's it going Xela? Have you had any luck finding a new yard?
