Broken Collar Bone - How long to ride again

Hi all, I am an adult returner after a break of 15 years, prompted by the adoption of a highland in need of some love.
I won’t be riding him but it did give me the nudge to start again. I have been having some private lessons to get me back up to speed. On Tuesday night I went
out the side door when the horse spooked, landed fairly heavily and have a broken collar bone.
Obviously I know I won’t be in the saddle for a wee while yet but just wondered
if this has happened to you, how long did it take for you to ride again? I’m keen to keep going as I really need to work on my balance 😀
Grateful for any personal experience stories or anything that aided recovery?

I had a nasty fall at the end of August - I came off at speed and landed on what turned out to be a concrete wall, breaking five vertebrae and four ribs. As the fractures were all stable I didn’t need any surgery or to wear a brace or anything, just wait for the bones to heal by themselves. The doctors told me it would take three months for everything to be completely healed - I started riding again in December so just over three months after my fall. DH broke his collar bone cycling and was back on his bike three weeks later 😬

Someone I know who broke their collarbone took 8 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you are soon back in the saddle. Tell us more about your adopted Highland!

Ah he is lovely, ex riding school boy who has arthritis in his hocks so is retired, though I was planning to take him out over the summer for a few very gentle hacks.

He is a kind lad, can be a bit of tool when he wants to, forgets about his rickety legs when decides to canter about en citing the other geldings to riot 😂.

Due to his background he is solid around children so I am happy for my grandson to groom and fuss him.

He is a handsome devil and I love him :)

Lesina he will enjoy some walking out when the weather improves. They are a quirky breed but adorable and usually very safe. I bet you don't stick at one 😉
