Best place online to buy basic yard clothing

I am incredibly excited to start spending time with horses after a break of more than 20 years. Very small private yard, just two horses and I will be mainly helping with exercising an ex-racer a couple of times a week. The owner is a qualified former riding instructor so I'm in good hands.

I need some basics like riding things like tights, hat etc. No need for fancy stuff or brands(no one there to see it!) but would be happy to pay more for good quality that will last.

I have obviously looked online but I haven't bought anything horse-related since the 90s so not sure where to start.

Any recommendations for good online shops?

Go and get your hat properly fitted in a shop.

Tights/jods from eBay or market place. It's a good place for boots too. Base layers/tops from decathlon

Agree get your it fitted from a good local retailer even if you then go of and look for it cheaper elsewhere

Please don't do this. This is why shops go out if business. Its really unfair. It takes someone time and energy to fit your hat, it's a bloody cheek to then piss off and buy it online for a tenner less.

I bought dd a new hat yesterday and happy to pay a tenner more to help that shop stay in business.

If you are planning to compete even just with a local Riding club in 2023 you will need a newly safety compliant hat. This rules out a lot of old cheaper styles.

Buy everything else second hand from ebay or FB marketplace.

Thanks everyone. Yes will get the hat properly fitted, not that I have any plans to compete in any level! My only goal is to become competent enough to be able to independently exercise this former race horse. He's lovely but spooks quite easily.

Then get a body protector too!

I really like the aubrion stuff! My daughter has a few sets and they wash and wear well. I always buy in the sale online- Hope Valley Saddlery for example

It would be sensible to get a 2023 compliant hat now rather than have to buy a new one even 2 years down the line. Even if you end up just going on a riding club camp you'll need a pink tagged hat.

I buy basic yoga leggings from Amazon and ride in them. Best thing I've bought is a pair of mountain warehouse waterproof over trousers for £16. I got a cheap coats from mountain warehouse too in the sale.
I'd spend the cash on a properly fitted riding hat, body protector and insulated boots come next winter (Ariat ones are my favourite).

Decathlon Fouganza 100 jods are my winter basics with fitness tights from G4Free for summer on Amazon.

Both have one or two thigh pockets for your phone and are cheap as chips.

bingoitsadingo · 15/03/2023 23:14

GS equestrian riding tights are a great budget option, really good value and last well. Just be careful which style you pick as some have pockets etc and some dont

@EatYourFive may I suggest that you have someone to hand to catch you when you faint at how expensive everything is since you last bought something 20 years ago?!!😂😂😂my daughter and I spent an hour pricing everything up for when we get our imaginary big house with stables and horses with neither of us having to work so we can spend all day with horses and the costs 😮😮
