If you compete, what level are you at?

Just that - are you jumping 60cm and doing walk/trot dressage tests or are you at Badminton in May? My DD is at pony club - yes, the horror, I'm a pony club mum - and is just moving up to sj at 1m and ode at 90. Not BE yet though.

Me: barely competed - a couple of intro tests and clear round. However if I manage to find a suitable horse then I’d like to do the odd prelim unaffiliated or maybe even novice eventually?

Dd´s still in Pony Club but hasn’t competed for her branch for a while. We loved pony club - some of my closest friends are other mums I met at rallies/camp. DD’s now competing BE and BSJA - novice last season, hoping to go to intermediate this year and do a 2*, but we’ll see how her horse is before making firm plans 🤞🏻

I haven’t competed for ages. It’s not something I really enjoy anymore. I really love reschooling ex racers. I love taking a wobbly 4 year old who’s only ever done straight lines and having a horse that’s lovely, balanced and polite in - years time, I do the odd prelim.
I jumped reasonably decent classes on 148s as a teenager but since my mum stopped paying for it when I was off ponies about 20 years ago I’ve only really done the odd prelim, hunter trial or clear round as part of schooling/producing a horse but I’ve no desire to compete anymore. I don’t think I’ve even turned my 3.5t on this year!!

My daughter competes in BSJA (novice). Only just started this year on a new pony. Neither her or the pony have ever competed in BSJA before, only unaffiliated SJ. They've been to one competition so far and already qualified for Blue Chip in April.

Like others I haven't been seriously competitive since a teenager (my kids when they were riding did PC teams and various local competitive activities). What with not having a horse of my own for a long time then only having broken or green ones for a while after that competing was not really on my radar.

I do now have a horse capable of going out and about and have dabbled in a bit of unaffiliated dressage (prelim/novice) and SJ (70/80cm) but don't really have the drive for it any more, I might do a few friendly local things or maybe try Trec or indoor eventing in future for the fun but mostly it's all about hacking for me and if I'm going to bother loading up to go somewhere I'd probably rather it was the beach or a fun ride or similar than a competition!

BD Elementary, used to BE many moons ago but now I'm afraid to go over a 30cm pole! Also show to County level.

gwenneh · 22/02/2023 15:53

BD schooling elementary, competing affiliated at novice. I'm bringing on a youngster this year so we're back to lower levels for a bit!

international competitor in current discipline. 😁

We don’t own our own horses, my DC are very lucky (I think) in their riding stables, & compete with them in Riding Club teams and local events eg the local schools showjumping league. My 11 yo is jumping 70 (which is the max the pony she rides will do, she’ll grow out of him soon), my 14 yo is jumping 80 & novice dressage. 14 yo is off to the nationals at Arena U.K. in April so she’s pleased.

international competitor in current discipline. 😁

I feel like you should tell us more!

SoImAHorseThenTed · 23/02/2023 15:32

I compete in a FITE discipline, but not saying which one as it would be a bit outing. Britain have riders competing in 3 FITE disciplines at international level, and sent 3 senior and 2 junior teams to 3 different world championships last year (TREC, Horseback Archery and Working Equitation.) The youngest member of our teams is 15 and the oldest member is in their 60s. I know riders from all 3 disciplines, it is a bit of a small world out there! I used to show at county level and was a BSJA member back when it was called that. I fell sideways into my current sport but haven’t looked back. It’s very exciting to travel abroad to compete and I have had some absolutely brilliant experiences. We sometimes take our own horses but Brexit means increasingly we end up hiring horses for non-championship events, which obviously brings its own challenges. There’s a lot of time and effort goes into training and into fundraising to help us get abroad, as we are entirely unsupported by grants and rely on personal funds or donations from well wishers.

I used to event and SJ but too aged now, my current horse is competitive at elementary dressage when I can bother getting out, quite happy schooling at home and hacking mostly.
One of my kids was BE eventing from 13 and did Ponies, Juniors etc. but has now, sadly, given up completely.

liveforsummer · 23/02/2023 19:33

I don't compete and haven't since a teen (went on to racing after that then had a few years where I drove for weddings then no horses at all. Dc started with share ponies and competed at local shows on those at 50-70. Just bought a pony for them but he's young and very green so we are back to square 1 and not ready to go out yet. Hoping he will be an all rounder for local shows. He's not going to be a world beater that's for sure but is a lovely chap who will be a great fun family pony

Eventingmum · 01/03/2023 16:02

Daughter competes BE and BD.
She wants to be an eventer and is aiming for under 18's this year at 100.

We were in Pony club, but our branch mainly did mounted games, which my daughter enjoyed but she had a 14hh pony so wasn't quick enough for the big comps - left after a few years to concentrate on other things.

Firefly2023 · 01/03/2023 19:20

I competed as a child/teen. I did Prince Phillip Cup followed by BSJA juniors, school's team and PC team. I stopped competing when I went to university and haven't competed in ridden disciplines since. I now breed native ponies and show in hand.

Mummikub · 04/03/2023 20:03

Novice dressage and 70cm here. Scope to move up in both but an old injury to him means I'll probably stick at 70, I don't want him to break Grin
