Making hay soaking easier

One pony has mild asthma and my horse is getting a little plump. I do leave them out as much as possible but grass is getting low and they need forage. Don’t want to steam as doesn’t reduce sugars but I’m fed up of heaving heavy sodden hay nets. Not helped by the tap being quite a way from the stables. Has anyone used an easigrazer to soak and feed hay or does anyone have any practical advice? Thanks

Yes, I had an easigrazer for previous pony. Was brilliant. You still have to drag it to the stable once you've drained it using the tap at the bottom, but worked really well. Pricey but worth it.

I just spread dry hay out in the field. Coughy pony isn't triggered when the hay is outside.

We use hay cubes. Soak at the tap, drain and wheel into the stable. It has made life so much easier.

Have a look at the Parallax HayMobil someone on our yard had one and it looked great

Do they get very manky at the bottom?

@Firefly2023 one of my mine can finish a hay net in no time at all. Is there anyway of slowing their feeding down with a hay cube.

I have a hay cube.

It can get manky at the bottom so you do need to clean it on a fairly regular basis. The bit between wheel arches and walls are difficult to clean.

However, on the whole, I’m very pleased with it (had it a year), as it completely saved my back.

I have an eazigrazer for my fat EMS cob. It's brilliant for soaking hay, and I'm an evil mother who has it on the pony sized ring to slow him down even more.

Love it.

Not at all. The bung is very close to the base so we soak in the morning and drain after an hour. By the evening all the water is gone. It is also very easy the next day to clear out any uneaten hay left over as the inside is a smooth surface and it can be rinsed before refilling the next day.

That's good to know 👌

Dammit MN! Just ordered a hay cube - SICK of soaking hay, finding a big enough receptacle and then tipping said receptacle/lifting haynet and cleaning up the run off water and loose hay 😬😬😬😬

What am I saying?! Thank You MN! 😂
