Anybody have any recommendations for safety stirrups. My daughter has had the peacock ones but now she's a teenager there not recommended and she does like to showjump so I do worry..
I've been looking at free jump but are they worth the money?. I was also looking at the le mieux ones?.

I have the Lemieux ones and get on really well with them 😊 I love the studs on the tread and they have some shock absorption as well

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 31/01/2023 14:24

I have the Jin Air and really like them.

Newuser82 · 31/01/2023 14:29

My son has acavallo arena allupro and likes them

Polkadotties · 31/01/2023 15:10

I’ve got techs and I love them. There were horror stories about free jumps a few years ago

Greatly · 31/01/2023 15:13

We've had a pair of free jumps for 6 years and never had an issue. She's fallen off in them many times and foot never stuck.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 31/01/2023 16:47

The horror stories about free jumps weren’t that they stuck but that they broke if i remember rightly?

CountryCob · 31/01/2023 18:50

@Newuser82 I have the same and really like them, they opened sideways fully for me once and stopped potential dragging. I would prefer one that actually opens, I think the thing with the free jumps is they are solid?

We have these and really like them too.

I don't know. We have two pairs both 6 years old and still going strong.

Hedgehog6 · 31/01/2023 21:01

We have the Lemieux (for 13 year old ds) and the acavallo (for 9 year old dd) and like both. The Acavallo junior size I think goes up to 65kg but aren’t that wide, not wide enough for 13 year old, size 7 feet. Also, if she does PC it’s worth noting that they don’t allow the pin grips.

Newuser82 · 01/02/2023 09:08

@Hedgehog6 oh my son does pony club with his acavallo stirrups and no one has ever said anything. He doesn't do games though so maybe they aren't allowed for that?

SR04 · 01/02/2023 12:23

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to go for the le mieux, just got to choose between balance and control 😬

I’ve been looking at these. From what I can see the only difference is the sloped tread?

Yes that seems to be the only difference. Any idea which would be better for jumping?

Dc have free jumps and tech Venice. Both are great in their own way as quite different and I'm not sore I could pick of you asked which was best. Dd1 likes her free jumps and dd2 prefers the tech . Freejumps are nice and light. I believe they've been changed/improved since the snapping. They used to have weight limits etc. Ours we've had years and are still like new.

None of the safety stirrups are allowed for games except peacocks. They are fine for all other disciplines though and even BE evwnting etc. Only the magnet ones aren't allowed for eventing

I have acavello arena aluplus and I really like them. The main reasons I picked them were that the footbed wasn't too spiky (it's still very grippy, but some looked like they could be quite nasty if you caught them wrong), and the safety arm opens at the bottom of the side, not the top, which makes far more sense to me (since if you fall, your weight will be pulling downwards, not up).

I wish I'd bought the alupro (non-incline) version instead - personally I don't find the incline makes me feel more secure, security in the saddle comes from your weight being in your heels, and having my heels vaguely pointed down by the stirrups isn't the same as properly pushing my weight down. With the incline I feel like I have to push down further for the same level of security.

Why are they not recommended? Do you mean the ones with the rubber band on one side?

I've always ridden in these, I can't see how they could not be recommended?

I'm interested rather than arguing with you if my question sounds like I am! 😊

Because once you go over a certain weight it's possible to dislodge the rubber.

liveforsummer · 04/02/2023 22:13

@purplepencilcase I actually don't know the reason but in all my years with horses I've never seen anyone over the age of about 8/9 using them so never thought it an option
