Do you wear a wax jacket to the stables?

I'm a jacket fiend. Have loads but still looking for the perfect one.

I want a certain length, breathable and dash-to-the-field waterproof.

Currently have an unpadded didrikson and I layer up underneath as per the weather. It works well so I don't know why I'm still looking 😆

I've noticed wax jackets still sell well. I remember them from the 90s - heavy, stiff and impossible to clean. Are they more practical these days?

I love my barbour but don't wear it to muck out in

Atm I live in the Equidry I bought for dd. She hated it but its brilliant for trogging about at the stables. Super warm amd waterproof and keeps everything underneath clean. Not at all flattering, but my horses don't seem to care.

I have an old shires blouson jacket. It’s uglier than sun but is warm and waterproof. Waxed jackets once they start to smell of horse piss always smell of horse piss in my experience

Urgh no would never wear waxed jacket to the yard. Once they get horse piss on them then you can never get rid of it. Synthetic jackets are so much better.

Yes, I do unless I cycle to the horses. It is practical, waterproof and tough. I don't wear it anywhere but the horses, so don't care if it smells. You would have to wash them daily to prevent the smell of horse anyway.

I have had them since I was a teen and they last years. Also people give them to me, unasked, when they buy the wrong size or don't use them, so I have never actually bought one.

I've got a tatty old joules long, waterproof coat, that covers my arse. It's thin so I don't overheat when shovelling shit, but big enough I can put a fleece under it.

I too am always looking for the 'one' good coat, but always end up returning to my old faithful. I've been listing after an ariat and also a Barbour, but they are both the best part of £300 which I struggle to justify

I'm also a jacket fiend and I've just bought a Horka navy blue riding jacket that's so warm, flattering and practical I just can't get over how much I love it!

It's very similar to this if it takes your fancy:

I had a Barbour in the past to do my horses, not very warm and not possible to wash. Ended up filthy and smelly. I bought a very large and unflattering Eqicoat, so warm, fleece lined and water proof, brilliant and washable and probably cheaper than a Barbour

bravelittletiger · 27/01/2023 08:02

@TodayInahurry I actually love the Equicoat and I even love how oversized and cosy it looks!
