Horny Mare Troubles

Hoping for advice please, I know absolutely nothing about horses but would like an opinion on a situation! (I’m very non confrontational so want to understand if IBU before I possibly address the situation) Daughter owns pony (he’s a rig but only on cusp, vet thinks unlikely it’s a fully retained testi as his hormone levels are low within the scale) We 100% knew what we were getting into when we got him, and was advised that he’s only reactive when mares wink or squirt at him, but he can be pulled away. He has never caused any problems, never needed rig calm and is a very sweet boy. Yard knew exactly what he was and have had rigs before (he’s also not only one there) and suggested that he could go there … we never actually asked. We love the yard and owners so really don’t want to upset anyone. What are your opinions on putting a very hormonal mare that is continually going in and out of heat in the paddock next to our boy. He’s disregarding his electric fencing and trying to get to the horny mare! (Wooden fencing in between them) he is live out and she goes into a stable at night. Other ponies are geldings and they are all moved around within the paddocks and they are in stables at night too so it’s not like she absolutely has to go next to him. (Live outs stay in same individual paddocks) Would I be unreasonable to ask her not to be placed next to him whilst she is in heat or am I being unreasonable in asking that? In my mind it’s unnecessarily cruel to put them both through it. Thoughts please ..

Definitely speak to yard owner - it's not ideal for either the rig or the mare and being very close to a rig could well be triggering her seasons.

I am sure the yard owner wouldn't want the fencing being trashed or potential injuries from horses jumping in and out and possibly getting kicked.

My rather tarty mare was once next to a riggy gelding who promptly put his leg through the fence (no injuries thankfully!). Riggy gelding was the newcomer and she was in a field she'd always been in. As it happened the gelding settled down, she settled down and they very quickly went to ignoring each other but if they'd not settled down I would have asked YO to move the gelding before something bad happened.

@RatherBeRiding Thank you so much for your response, not knowing anything about horses I did wonder if he could be encouraging her to stay in heat. I do feel sorry for both of them especially when there is no need for them to be next to each other.

I also had a tarty mare that would take great pleasure in winding up the geldings in the next field. It didn’t cause me any issues but it was a problem for the owners of the geldings.
