Muddy boots and cars

As the title states. How do people manage to keep a clean car at this time of year? We have mud smeared everywhere. Trying to get in a routine of changing boots for shoes before we get in but there is still transfer. How do you store your muddy boots once in the car? I've been chucking all ours in a shopper bag but they then make each other even more muddy. Is there some solution I've not thought of? We're at a new yard this winter that has a muddy walk from stables to car. Last year we had a nice concrete area that we could hose off then walk to the car without re muddying - those were good times! 😖😆.

It's a nightmare - isn't it? Don't have any solution really. I always tell myself we're going to change footwear before getting in the car but when it's pissing down outside i end up just getting in with my muddy feet.

This year, I am going to buy a boot buddy and see if that helps. Will just need to remember to keep it topped up.

Otherwise, I'll probably just continue to haphazardly dip my feet in the nearest puddle in an attempt to clean and continue to have the car filthy!

DuesToTheDirt · 27/11/2022 20:17

I have a plastic crate in the boot for dumping muddy boots in. TBH I'm not that fussed though, the car is not pristine and none of us really care!

Mollyplop999 · 27/11/2022 20:19

Never found a solution yet. Like you I soon get over the changing my shoes every time. I keep a pack of baby wipes in the car and wioe the worst off the front of the seat with them. It's just constantly filthy all winter 😕

flowerycurtain · 27/11/2022 20:20

I swapped my car mats for plastic ones. They have a thick rim. Dead easy to pressure wash out or even bang out the dried mud once it's out. I keep bin bags in the car and have been known to put children in them.

tenbob · 27/11/2022 20:25

I’ve got a plastic storage box in the boot of the car, and generally wellies live in there

So everyone gets into the car in shoes or trainers, boots go on at destination, and then get changed back to shoes before we get back in the car

monsteronahill · 27/11/2022 20:36

Boot buddy for light mud! In the boot, a solid plastic tub (no holes in, made the mistake before) to dump dirty boots in and slippers to drive home in. If terrible weather - carrier bag in the back seats!

liveforsummer · 27/11/2022 20:38

Have googled boot buddy and I'm not sure it looks up the the job 😆. A box sounds a good idea as would at least keep everything upright

Stacking box in the boot. Cheap floor mats over the decent ones.

User38899953 · 27/11/2022 20:41

Also I keeps old towels in book for kids to wipe down and then sit on

ArcticSkewer · 27/11/2022 20:41

if boot buddy isn't up to the job, try mud daddy

PurplePansy05 · 27/11/2022 20:44

I keep a large shopping bag for muddy wellies/walking boots in each car. Then we go through the back and take them off in the garden before getting inside the house, and DH or I clean them using the garden tap first.

AlwaysLatte · 27/11/2022 20:47

On a dog walk we take boots in crate, swap over when we get there and again before we get back on the car, then hose the boots down at home to dry in the porch.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 27/11/2022 20:56

I have a pair of trainers that I drive there in, boots in the boot, change when I arrive and leave. Have to be strict with myself!

Actually considering a mud daddy for the horses legs but it seems a bit bulky for the car. Didn't fancy buying 2

ah yes maybe. I have the smaller one permanently in the back of the car in winter but the big one is definitely too big for that!

MrsPnut · 27/11/2022 21:02

We have a plastic trug in the boot.
We used it for swimming kits, rugby boots, dog towels and once picking up a dead cat from the side of the road to take to the vets.

Pythonese · 27/11/2022 21:05

I drive a pukka Land Rover with rubber mats so not really fussed. It’ll get cleaned out once a month however no muddy riding boots in the house.

louderthan · 27/11/2022 21:21

I've given up caring 😂 it'll get cleaned in spring

Well I was very much at this point but I'm getting new car later this week and today took mine to be valued at we buy any car. (In the city so less understanding of mud) only then did I see how bad it was Blush. Currently have good intentions to not let the new one get quite so bad 😆

I'm a dog walker as well as a horse rider and I've just given up to be honest 🤣

Sometimes I'll change footwear if it's really filthy or my feet have gotten wet but otherwise I just accept that my car will be permanently filthy 🙈

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 27/11/2022 22:43

Big blue IKEA bags for when it's properly muddy

But the car is pretty filthy just with dry dust and mud as we don't bother unless everyone is v wet and muddy.

Cheap fleece blankets fold down small and can sit in the door pockets in the rear. Dead handy for wrapping up chilled, or wet and dirty children. They wash and dry very quickly too.

Same here, but the shoes that I drive to the yard it get strangely muddy just walking from the driver's seat to the car boot!

QuestionableMouse · 27/11/2022 22:44

I used to keep a pressure sprayer and a stiff scrub brush in the car. Spray, scrub, dump them in a plastic tub in the boot.

mindutopia · 27/11/2022 23:45

I have a rubber boot liner. But back when I cared a bit more, I just put muddy boots in a cardboard box.

MrsIronfoundersson · 30/11/2022 19:38

One of these and a plastic squashy trug type thing lined with newspaper or an old towel
