Just that really- are you turning ponios out or keeping in tomorrow for the predicted Big Storm?

I don't have my own unfortunately but was at dds stables this afternoon, they're keeping them all in

Much happier for mine to be out. A friend of mine’s stables blew down in a storm - thankfully her horses were out. Mine are in a sheltered field, with access to a field shelter and are remarkable at coping by finding the most sheltered bit of the field and turning their bums to the wind. Much the safest.

I’m leaving ours in, my mare is a spooky twat and is more likely to harm herself outdoors

lastqueenofscotland · 17/02/2022 23:18

In our stables are brick and very solid. My mare is a knob in the wind.

Depends where you are - East Midlands here and forecast 60-70mph gusts. Turned parents oldies out earlier into their big field with sheltered spots and a Dutch barn for if they want to get completely out of the wind.

Babadook76 · 18/02/2022 09:08

Depends on where you are and how strong the stables are. 40mph wind is capable of causing pretty bad structural damage and some places are looking at 100mph winds

Out right now (in SE where the wind is not toooo bad, yet!), yard handyman went around nailing down anything that moves yesterday and YO is keeping a close eye on them, I suspect they'll be in earlier than usual, I don't envy the grooms trying to catch them if they get a proper hoolie on though!

tattychicken · 18/02/2022 09:27

Ours are in, bound to do themselves some damage hareing about, and field is surrounded by trees so worried that branches could come down and damage fencing and then we could have loose horses to deal with.

tattychicken · 18/02/2022 09:28

But yes, not too bad yet. Hope I haven't kept them in under false pretences!

MmeHennyPenny · 18/02/2022 09:33

Keeping them in. Brick built stables. Monitoring the situation closely.
Lots of trees too so we were concerned about flying debris from them.

Mine lives out 24/7 with lots BBM of natural shelter so keeping everything crossed he’s ok. One of the other liveries checked this morning and they were all ready ok and the yard owner’s going at lunchtime and this evening. It’s a 45 minute drive for me so erring on the side by of caution - I was supposed to be practising long reining with him today but have decided to put it off to another day
