Waterproof rugs that are actually (actually!) waterproof?

Our five oldies live out 24/7/365 on a paddock paradise track system.

Winters here in Portugal tend not to be cold but can be very, very wet - up to last year they coped fine with thick coats but as they age they're losing condition in prolonged wet spells. Cheap rugs (I speak from experience!) are a false economy so I'm looking for no fill or 100gm rugs that will really keep them dry. Any recommendations??

TIA!

Masta rugs work well with mine

Premier equine 40g and 100g are fabulous

I've got a Horseware Rambo no fill that is excellent, she's always bone dry underneath.

Agree the Rambo and PE. Rambo I find a little more user friendly than PE

Tenbob · 07/07/2021 19:58

Rambo or Weatherbeeta

FluffMagnet · 07/07/2021 20:00

Rambo

Thank you! Will look into those - can't buy from the UK anymore but hopefully they are available in the EU.

Another vote for Rambo here - expensive but 100% waterproof

Polkadotties · 07/07/2021 23:40

Weatherbeeta 0g is brilliant

lastqueenofscotland · 08/07/2021 09:09

PE for sure

rantymcrantface66 · 08/07/2021 09:21

When I lived in Cyprus we used the website Horze as they are an eu site I think Swedish or something so posts all over. They stick a wide range of brands. All the horses are ones and bucas too which can be good

EmmaC78 · 08/07/2021 21:50

I think Rambo's are worth the money. If I don't have the budget for Rambo I go for Weatherbeeta. I only buy 1000 or 1200 denier rugs whatever brand I buy as the 600D ones just can't stand up to heavy rain.

Sarahlou63 · 09/07/2021 08:37

@EmmaC78 - and less likely to get trashed!

I’ve got a PE 0g turnout and its so thick. I think it’s got about 3 layers to it. My very warm horse does not wear it in summer as he would just over heat.

I had one of these for a retired old girl and was pleased with it.

@FlemishHorse - thanks. Have got those at the moment, they can't withstand heavy rain.

Horsewear every time.

Rambo if you can afford it, Rhino for the cheaper option.
