Yesterday I went to a Hunter Trial. I was transporting a friend in my horsebox not competing myself. It was a fun afternoon but there was one woman - at least 14 stone on a pony no more than 12.2hh. It was really upsetting to see this woman , far far too heavy for the pony try and make it jump round a x country course. When they finished the pony was stumbling and looked lame. I’m far too bloody British to have said anything, but I kind of wish I had - just watching made me feel a bit sick … has anyone here ever actually said anything in these circumstances ? Or is it a MYOB ?.

Not sure if it was the same fb post you guys saw, but there was one a quite large lady, breaking in a 13.2hh 3 year old, it's back was dipping, and it looked very unhappy. Anyone who commented about the 15% rule, (and to be honest, at that age, I think the advice is 10%) was just fat shaming, apparently. I got a whole host of abuse for saying the pony may not misbehave, as a/ it probably couldn't with the weight, and b/ often they don't straight away, but damage is cumulative, and that I thought that it was beyond the pony's capabilities, and detrimental to it's health.

Same people then slagging off people who shoe their horses, or ride with a bit, as it's cruel.
