Does anyone have any experience of the Paddock Blade?

Thinking about getting one but wondered if they are good or not and how heavy they are in regards to east of use?

I've not used one, but from what I've heard they are only useful on bowling green flat grass. Otherwise it tends to go over the poos and smear them on the grass :S

Works fine on shortish grass and saves a lot of poo picking! I have been pleased with ours. Probably would be less efficient on very long grass (I wish!) or particularly bumpy ground. They are quite heavy to empty when full though - takes two of us weaklings but the young fit grooms can do it single handed.

Thank you, think I might invest!

They're very poor on anything but very short grass on exceedingly flat ground. Any tussocky grass, bumpy ground, ruts etc. and they bounce around, miss loads of droppings and are useless. You can't reverse them, so if you want to do a thorough job starting from a corner, you have to lug them manually into the corner, hitch up and go. Equally, to empty them, you have to lift them up and tip them, unless you fork the contents out by hand. A complete waste of money in my experience!

I've read some comments on Facebook about this sort of mechanised poo picking being linked to Equine Grass Sickness, so if you're in a known EGS area I wouldn't risk using one.

In believe it's the paddock vacuums that have been linked to EGS, I believe it's because they suck the botulism up from the soil. The blade is just a scoop dragged across the grass (like actual poo picking) so it wouldn't cause the same effect.

Paddock Blade definitely work! In fact, they don't just work but they do an absolutely brilliant job! We were one of the first to own back in 2016 when the company started. I couldn't live without one now. None of our paddocks are flat and it still does a great job. It just needs a few more runs on the hilly sections to pick it all up.

The completely remove the manure from the paddock. We used to harrow and then had a paddock vac. The harrow doesn't remove the manure it just spread it. We didn't see any reduction is worm counts when harrowing (something i'm anal on).

The vac did an ok job but it's heavy and cumbersome and was just s much effort as picking up manually. Also, you have to empty the vacuum which is a disgusting job and means you come into contact with a lot of poo! The motor on it doesn't like stones of any size we had to get our repaired multiple times. Eventually, we got sick of it sold it, and brought a blade and still had lots of cash to spare.

The people paddock blade are really nice to deal with to and genuinely care about your horse's health not just taking your money like so many brands in the industry!

Thanks, I have got one now and been using it for the last year, I find it fabulous when ground is dry but don’t use it when ground is wet as don’t want to ruin ground with my landy towing it!
