Broken hearted DD - loan ended abruptly

DD (13) has been riding a horse on an informal loan for 6 months. Both she and the horse have come along brilliantly and DD completely lost her heart to the grumpy, uncooperative but adorable mare.

The owner has decided, at a moment's notice, that the loan isn't working out and ended the arrangement by text, with little explanation, hours before DD was due to go out for a lesson.

She's been inconsolable since. Please reassure me that she'll stop crying soon Sad

@lastqueenofscotland

The owner hasn’t acted well but honestly there is literally nothing to be gained pressuring them for an explaination/guilt tripping about how upset your daughter is.
The owner has their reasons and even if I find them questionable at the end of the day it is their horse and their decision. We're walking away with dignity intact.

DD is bouncing back slowly. Lots of tears again today but she understands that the loan arrangement is unrecoverable.

Her instructor is putting feelers out for another loan locally and she is hitting Facebook hard. She found a beautiful Connemara that she thought was local but turned out not to be, i.e. Birmingham, Alabama instead of Birmingham, England (place names changed) so at least her geographical knowledge is improving...!

Unfortunately covid has put our two local riding stables out of business so alternative options are thin on the ground.

Thanks for everyone's kind words.

Hope she finds something suitable . It’s very sad that so many riding schools have gone to the wall due to the pandemic .

She will find something. If it helps you can tell her I always had my own horses then wasn't in a position to any more. Had a few share/part loans but nothing really gelled
Then I met the mare I fell for and part loaned her for a decade Smile and it was the best thing that ever happened

@Floralnomad I know, there is massive demand now from all those kids and nowhere for them to go. It's really sad.

One of the ex riding schools now just does loans and livery so she's on the waiting list for the next suitable horse that comes up. But they are really expensive and their T&Cs are pretty draconian.
