Riding clothes suggestions for a hijab wearing woman?

The hijab is the least relevant aspect to be honest, I just plonk the hat on top. But I’m not keen on the tight riding bottoms! I’m a beginner and only starting to think about my riding outfit. So far I’ve been wearing loose, thin joggers, which seem fine I think? But maybe they’re ok for now but will get uncomfortable if (hopefully when) I get more serious, do a bit of cantering etc.

Similarly, on top, I prefer loose clothing which is bum covering. I feel like I have a bit more flex when it comes to my top half whereas the riding world seems pretty set on breeches/jodhpurs (which isn’t happening unless I go down the old school flappy jodhpur route which would be entertaining for the yard I’m sure). Any ideas?? Can I just stick with my joggers? Would half chaps be a good idea?

Thanks!

If you find your joggers ride up then look at jodhpurs clips, designed to keep jodhs down over short boots, no reason they wouldn't work with joggers over long boots too

Cherry

Please don't be put off by silly comments. Many Christians along with Muslims have needed to find appropriate clothing for them to ride (for a great many years!) and this is totally possible. Good luck!

See this is the Mumsnet that I love. I have no need to wear hijab and can't ride a horse, but I love watching a group of people solving a problem together. Thank you! (Sorry I have nothing constructive to add)

Have you seen the UHIP coats ? They are full length with a zip at the back so it parts at the back when you ride. The you could wear jodhpurs under. Or just get a pair of breeches a couple of sizes bigger and take them in at the waist.

Alternatively you could ride side saddle and wear what you like!

Those riding skirts look fabulous. I like the Mexican style culotte type ones. So elegant.
I'm ridden in cords plenty of times when I couldn't be bothered to change into jodhs and they're OK, better than jeans anyhow. I buy M+S men's cords for work occasionally, they don't seem to be too empty-pouch weird looking in front on me as some men's trousers can be and could be a cheaper option before you commit to one of those beautiful skirts.

I thought of you yesterday when an advert for western riding trousers popped up in my newsfeed. They weren't middles so not sure how tight they are round the bottom etc but they looked significantly looser than regular jods and had more of a bootcut style. Something else to look in to, perhaps more practical than a skirt for every day wear?!

It's worth checking out a range of online stores too to get some ideas.

There some good stuff here:
